Mamie grinned at Delilah's enthusiasm. Looking things up in a textbook was definitely better when done with a buddy. Solo work was not Mamie's favorite. She, too, jotted down some notes about the witch Circe. She scratched her chin again, trying to think of what three-headed dog at Hogwarts Delilah was talking about.
"You think that's the same kind of creature?" she asked, trying to flip through her book to find something. The chapter on Greek mythology did have some information about the hellhound. Mamie tapped a drawing on her page. "It says in Greek mythology, Cerberus was a hellhound who guarded the entrance to the underworld." But Recard had said their textbook was just the myths, not the actual history, so...
"Did your three-headed Hogwarts dog guard something?" she asked. Maybe hellhounds were just magical guarddogs. "And what about this Proteus person? Do you think that's where the prefix proto- comes from?" She tried to remember what that prefix meant. It meant ancestor or something, if she remembered what her Papa had told her one time.
Delilah shrugged at Mamie's first question.
"I don't know. It was just a thought," she remarked. Delilah had never exactly been one to know much about magic. She had to study very, very hard to get to where she was. This wild guessing based on prior knowledge wasn't exactly her thing.
"It did guard something. There's this story about--..."
But the professor was moving on. Delilah gave Mamie another shrug then quickly got to work writing down some notes.

Porteus: - very skilled animagus
Medusa: - a gorgon
Apparently, they'd been pretty spot-on with their thoughts about Circe, and they'd probably have gotten close to getting the others right had Recard not moved on. Now they were writing a myth about themselves, but the good thing was that it only had to be three or four sentences long. Thank you, Recard! Thank you!
