Devin fleetingly glanced at the hooded figures at the front of the room as he entered, then shifted his gaze to the professor and pretended like the hoods weren’t there. ”Good afternoon, professor.” He sat down rather rigidly near Ash, clearly uncomfortable with the presence of the hoods but trying his hardest not to show his fear. They were watching everyone in this room, just waiting to pick them off. He was sure of it. With his mum and dad both being in perfectly respectable wizarding careers, as a healer and dragonologist respectively, he knew he didn’t have nearly as much to be afraid of as his muggleborn classmates, but he was still absolutely terrified. Devin looked at the pictures, each of which seemed to be a magical creature. Not just any creatures, but ones that had made their way into muggle lore. So, maybe this lesson was supposed to be about how muggles got everything wrong in their accounts of these magical creatures? He had come to understand by now that Mr. Scary Headmaster was making all the professors teach them about how bad muggles were. Morally he knew that he wasn’t above muggles, but he had seen what the hoods were capable of and what they were willing to do with students who dared defy them. For now he was going to hold his tongue, and he was certainly not going to suck up to the hoods like his housemate Emmerson seemed to be doing.
