Then Aboli's answer caught her attention and brought something to mind. "I think that's a basilisk, yeah," she said, raising her hand. "But I remember reading somewhere that some translations of old legends about them use 'cockatrice' and 'basilisk' interchangeably, so some people might've once thought they were similar or the same." Or maybe some people weren't as good as translating as they thought. Or, maybe most likely, they just had never actually seen them both, so they didn't know either of them actually existed. Which, in that case, fair enough.
