Cal hadn't gotten much sleep last night, the dorm had felt awfully big and full of scary shadows after spending his entire life sleeping in his cozy yellow bedroom with his mammy and dad right down the hall from him. Whenever he had managed to doze off he'd quickly woken from another nightmare where he was back in the Great Hall and everything was happening all over again.
But he hadn't dared show up late to class, so he had followed someone who looked like they knew what they were doing and tiptoed into class, please don't notice me.
G-Good Morning, sir. Cal managed in barely more than a whisper when he saw who would be teaching them.
It would be okay, he told himself, it would be okay if he just kept quiet and followed the rules. This was fine and not scary at all.
