Apparently the headmaster had a flair for the dramatic, something Neva could respect if she wasn't so overwhelmingly hungry. One thing you did not want to do was meet a Peralta on an empty stomach. Hangry didn't even begin to describe it.
She watched the man carefully, something about his smile seeming off. Glancing around at the veteran staff, she tried to gauge if this was normal behavior, only her question was answered for her as soon as the man took his seat.
The wave of emotions surged, crashed, and dissipated in a matter of moments. Confusion, alarm, unease, anger, and then nothing. She had to be calm here. The students were surely panicking enough for the lot of them and she didn't even have all the facts yet. She needed to know why. She needed to know why and who and... what she had gotten herself into. Whatever it was, she was starting to realize that it was bad. Her wand was slipped from its holster discreetly, an act of caution.
She turned her attention to William and Gabriela. They wore multiple hats at this school. They were used to dealing with children. She was taking her lead from them, at least for the moment.
