Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight

Was there anything so pointless as a Hogwarts feast? Dull, mind-numbing things, forced interaction with hundreds of dolts. Nem felt their IQ dropping by the second just being in the same room as who-knew-how-many 'how was your summer?'s.

Even so, their general bearing was pleasant enough as they sat at the Slytherin table, uniform on, neat and tidy and Really Just Very Happy To Be Here™. Some years, Nem kept an eye on the sorting, just to take note of any familiar names, but this evening their eye was fixed on the head table. More specifically, the main throne, conspicuously empty.

Where was the Big Man?

He'd not gone and ditched the place, had he? Moved on to bigger and better things (not that that would be much of a challenge)? Just the idea gave Nem the disorienting sensation of having had the rug pulled from under them, which in turn inspired a very ugly feeling somewhere deep inside their chest. Mostly at the fact they had been viewing this term with something like anticipation, as they'd intended to wrangle some more tutoring sessions from the Big Man, whose whole attitude and general vibe had so suddenly suited Nem and their interests down to the ground. The idea that they might have been thinking along those lines, and all the while the Big Man had upped and left - even though they'd been keeping an eye and an ear on what news they could, and would surely have heard - felt a little too much like he'd got one over on them. Like they'd been thwarted in some way. And that...

Ugly feeling. Very ugly feeling.

"Where's the Headmaster?" they asked the table at large, not waiting for a lull in general conversation, and unable to keep the irritation from their voice. In a way, Nem hoped that nobody else had the answer that they did not, even as wrath blossomed with every second that they remained in the dark.
