Violet had been thinking and thinking, and wasted three pieces of parchment with false starts, and she still didn't feel very confident about this. Her brain just could not come up with an idea today, which was unusual--this was what happened when you let emotions fog your thinking. At various turning points, they are faced with a riddle written in runes. They must translate the riddle, then calculate the arithmantic value of the letters in order to receive a clue about which path they need to take. The candidate who reaches the center successfully, in the least amount of time, is the winner. This challenge combines Ancient Runes and Arithmancy. It tests the mental abilities of the competitors, while adding the elements of a dark, scary, confusing maze and the need to work quickly, which tests their nerve and coolness under pressure. There. That was probably too complicated, but was the best Violet could come up with.
