"Nice to meet Violet! I'm Serena. Fourth year." She smiled at the girl "You have a lovely name." She then frowned, she had missed school last year?? And she thought she had it bad! "I'm so sorry to hear that. Is your family doing ok now?"

She then looked around the common room, as if making sure that there weren't a lot of other Slytherins within hearing distance. It was fortunate that most of their fellow house mates were outdoors, taking advantage of the cool weather. She imagined that this was not a conversation that Violet would appreciate having someone overhear.

"If its of any help, I'm sort of, kind of new this year too. Transferred from Ilvermorny when my parents split last year." She admitted with a shrug "It must be difficult, I imagine most of the friends you made last year are third year now, aren't they?"
