This Lion's eyes had just landed on Claudine (when had she slithered in?) when she felt a tug on her sleeve.

Oh... oh no... not a first year. Bernie groaned audibly. But she knew she had to say yes, because the first years were basically defenseless, and the big kids (like her) had to take care of them. "Okay," she agreed after a beat, leaning in to Emmerson and adding in a whisper, "but let's do it like they do in the WWE. Make it look real convincing and painful."

And without further ado, she threw an arm around Emmerson's neck to put her in a 'playful' headlock. Knowing this first year, she'd probably start screaming in 3...2...1...
Preeeeetty ambitious of Bernadette to assume Emmerson would wait until the metaphoric count of three. Emm was already convinced she was about to be beaten senseless. Add to that the fact she had NO IDEA what WWE was and you had a girl in real life panic by the time her housemate put her arm around her neck.

"AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!"

She didn't wanna be in detention anymore. She wanted her mama, she wanted her daddy, she wanted Fox and grandpa and the safety of the Manor or Stark School. Emm screamed again, trying to shove Bernie away from her before the older girl had the chance to snap her like a twig and ran out laughing maniacally.

What a time to be one of the smallest in the room.

To say it took several moments for the First Year to realize she was not actually being choked would've been...an understatement....--but she DID realize and did calm down....a little. Still screaming. Always screaming, but she did try to wrap her arms around Bernie's middle.

The muck was making movement more difficult than it needed to be.

She'd suck it up and fight Josh if Kinsay didn't want to. But to be completely honest, Avalon didn't know if a dummy would be much better for Kinsay. They could be brutal.

She resigned herself to the fact that she would step in if things got too bad for the little ones. As for now, she had her own dummy to fight. She took a deep breath through her nostrils and stared the dummy down. The Ravenclaw knew nothing about fighting, especially without her wand. Should she go on the offensive or the defensive first? While her upper body strength was lacking, she did have a powerful kick to her. Perhaps a sweep to the legs would be a good first move? Without overthinking it, she went for it. Avalon leapt forward, dragging her leg through the muck as fast as she could. She swept it out in front of her (although it was slowed slightly by the density of the mud), aiming for the dummy's lower half.
There was a very real reason the Headmaster typically made the students fight the dummies with magical rather than physical force. These bad boys were solid--had to be to withstand whatever activity they were needed for.

There was a loud C L U N K when the girl's foot connected with the dummy but being the non-living object it was, it felt nothing of the blow.

Rather than flinch, the dummy grabbed firmly to the Prefect's leg, hoisted her up and tossed her down into the ...Merlin knew what that substance was.

She walked up to the dummy and punched it right it the face really hard. She braced herself for what was about to come. Don't die don't die don't die don't get mortally wounded don't be stuck in the hospital for weeks.
Quite the tall girl to be able to land a punch in the dummy's face. If only the dummy was impressed--or affected at all. The unliving dummy didn't so much as flinch, but being as solid as it was, the little girl might have depending on how hard she punched.

The dummy's knee lifted the moment she got close enough, aiming for the Ravenclaw's stomach with an unnecessary amount of force that if it made contact could prove rather painful.

Perhaps she should've picked a classmate.

A judgmental look was cast at all the others who were teaming up to actually fight. What? Were they too chicken to take on the dummies? Yes, the girl knew the dummies could be more than a handful. Heath got a glare that would tell him that she thought he was being stupid for wanting someone to fight him. He himself didn’t even know how to fight, she was sure. As for Charlie, Claudine shot her a look of daggers. If she hurt Heath…

“I’ll take a dummy,’’ the girl told Trent. If it took a while to defeat the thing, then fine. There was enough pent up frustration and rage that she wanted to get out, anyway.
A bit of time was awful optimistic. Nevermind that, the dummy moved forward into the smelly substance of the detention room. If the girl had chosen this fate, there would be no protest here.

It stood, as the others had, and waited.
