AAAGH!
The seventh year, so focused on the gargoyles, jumped at the sudden sound. "Headmaster?" Pause. "I-I mean, hello. Hey." Did he have to tell the man that he had an appointment? Surely he knew, right? But headmasters had so much to do, he hardly knew if the man would remember exactly why he was-
Oh. Well, there was his answer.
As Trent started heading up the stairs, Lucas wasted no time in following him up. He couldn't risk being shut outside, even if he didn't want to be in this little appointment in the first place. His green eyes wandered upwards, trying to catch the earliest glimpse of this office and anything surrounding it. "SooOOooo...... did you have a nice day, Headmaster?" That was a good way to break the ice, right? "Let's...not." The Headmaster said, sinking into his chair and easing back. Bad enough he had an appointment with the questionable prefect, there was no need to draw it out further with small talk. "You didn't come here to shoot the breeze and find out about my day."
But perhaps that might be harsh for the delicate disposition of this one. The man leaned forward, his fingers steepled as his hands rested on the surface of the desk. He cleared his throat, breezing past his earlier statement. "I just...wouldn't want to waste your time. You've got NEWTs this year and I suspect you'll want to be studying. What d'you say we keep this meeting as brief as we can so we don't get in the way of that, hm?"
Nothing but the kind and caring Headmaster he was. The concern was clearly for the student and the amount of time he could be spending on his studies.
Was Dakest going to talk or what?
He didn't have all day. SPOILER!!: Demon spawn prodigy Quote:

Once they might have asked, been told no by either Jake or Becca, and then done the thing anyway, either overtly or surreptitiously (depending on a bunch of things). Now they just didn't ask, but in this case, the asking had sort of been necessary, plus set in motion before the Headsman had evolved into the Big Man.
And they'd been refused. Subtly insulted by the Big Man, too, if that comment about worth was anything to go by, but that rolled off them like water off a sea serpent's scales.
No doubt, Nem seethed. Inwardly. Outwardly their face was impassive, body language unchanged. The only real sign was a briefly extended moment of silence. This wasn't entirely unexpected, Nem had to admit, what with the way things were playing out. There was one part of the answer they were content to hear, however. It didn't exactly redeem the slight, but it certainly addressed the reason for Nem's original request. Challenge. Stimulation. Entertainment? Who knew. "Okay," they replied, smiling and animated once more. "I'll take you up on that, sir. Wednesday afternoon any good?" Exactly what kind of work the Big Man had in mind, they'd have to wait to see. If it was no good, if he decided he was going to try and have a little joke at their expense, they had other ideas already half-formed. "I'll let you get on, then," Nem added, getting to their feet. No point hanging around, they had what they came for.
Some of it, anyway. Maybe they'd send a letter back to home to wrangle the rest. Somehow. Nobody liked being beaten.
Bless. Was there ever a more agreeable student? None he saw at Hogwarts. The man thought he'd have to become stern after the no, even considered drawing his wand to get things moving along but this one. Upstead. This one here, was willing to take it and more importantly already wanted to leave.
Would that all the students who walked in wanted to be out as quickly. It would save him the exorbitant amounts of time he'd wasted thus far. "Wednesday is fine. Come prepared. I don't suggest eating right before. I want to know you're prepared for whatever I throw at you." If it was a challenge he wanted, it was a challenge he would get. "If that suits you, I think we're done here."
What a wonderful child. Quote:

The beady eyed creature let himself into the office once he was let up and immediately hobbled his way to the chest in the centre of the room. "This is?" He asked, giving the runes a once over before his eyes caught sight of the word etched by the lock.
....
He took a measured step back. "It's real. Whatever it is." He'd recognized that seal anywhere and now wished he hadn't come. A dark brow rose into his forehead at the goblin. "Is that it?" He questioned, unsatisfied with the assessment. Fine, it was real but what else? "Aren't you going to open it? Get a better estimate of its worth?" The Headmaster didn't call Korpsit all this way to have him look at the outside of the trunk then pull out.
Sure, the man could open it himself, but he was no fool. He'd seen the way the creature stepped back and saw the shift in those beady little eyes.
In case there was need, he drew his wand. It was a subtle motion, hardly noticeable until it was pointed in the goblin's face. "Open. It."
