It was a sizeable chest, he could see that once the man set it down. Gold inside perhaps? That much gold would definitely be worth something--if it was actually gold. Only a certain little beady eyed creature could confirm this for him and it was likely to be another few minutes before he arrived.
"And you say the students found this? Did you?" The Headmaster asked, rising from his chair and moving around the desk to get a better look at this new discovery. Gold, treasure, whatever it contained. Coins at the very least. The man crouched to get a better look at the markings all around the chest. It was the writing just by the lock that gave him pause. There was something about it...something he couldn't quite put his finger on but it left him unsettled.
"We'll wait for my associate to get here. He's got a good eye for this sort of thing. Might be able to give us a better idea of what this thing is worth and what we could get for it."
For now, he had better sense than to go prying open strange chests that showed up out of nowhere. What did he look like, a Gryffindor?
