But all of this was dependent on if she got the Ravenclaw’s wand first.
Claudine almost thought her spell hadn’t worked and was prepared to defend herself against another one of Heath’s. But his incantation was incomplete and he was giving her a small smile. Of course he wasn’t mad at her. Did he even ever feel anger towards her? Did that mean her spell had worked? Did he take th ehit on purpose? Did this count as her taking advantage of his kind heart? The Snakette hoped not.
It took her a second to realise that Heath was trying to cast a non verbal spell on himself but the girl was ready. “Expelliarmus!’’ Cue that number six-like wand movement that sent scarlet light in Heath’s direction.
Heath didn’t notice the determined fire in Claudine’s eyes. He was a bit distracted trying to non-verbally undo her spell. Although he could do without his wand if he had to, he’d really rather not! He tried moving his tongue again, and… nothing. Of course. He hardly expected it would work on the first (or second) attempt, and he was out of time to try again.
Out of the corner of his eye, Heath saw Claudine aiming her wand at him again. Without his voice, he would have to rely on his wits and his acting skills to keep his wand. He already knew what spell she was planning to use, even before he heard it. How? Because it was the one he’d use in the same situation. He quickly ducked the moment he heard the beginning of a disarming charm, but unfortunately, his height betrayed him. The spell grazed the top of his head, and his wand went flying out of his hand.
He looked at Claudine with an expression that was neither determination nor defeat, silently sizing her up. She may have his wand now, but until the headmaster called time, there was still a chance for him to get it back. The only question was how?
