Fourth year. Fourth! Cecelia wasn’t entirely sure how she’d managed to survive the terms leading up to this one, but it probably had a lot to do with her friends. One of which wasn’t coming back...She knew this term was going to be so so so so weird without her, Tavie being the one that could talk sense to her, help her study, offer her guidance. Tavie who understood her and made sure her secrets were safe. Brainy and beautiful and awesome Tavie. She missed her already and they’d only just arrived. Honestly, the only reason she was putting on a brave face was for Flynn. She knew this was going to be worse for him. There was also the matter of her brother. The adorable little brother sized distraction that was Sammy was enough to take Cecelia’s mind off of all things worrisome and she was thankful for that.
The fourteen year old hurried to her seat, flopping down and propping her chin on her hand and bouncing her knees in anticipation, eyes on the sorting ceremony and on a familiar head of hair that was shiny and almost as good as dad’s. She was nervous for him. Sam was gentle and kind and needed to be taken care of and whatever house he wanted, that was the house Cecelia wanted for him. She just hoped he’d remember to be himself and not be scared of the smelly old hat and to say what he’d prefer because it was okay to say, even if it didn’t mean the hat would be swayed. The point was it could help. That was the point.
”My brother is being sorted tonight,” She announced to those around her, because it was important they knew. ”Whatever house he gets, let’s all cheer for him. It’ll make his night.” And embarrass him, but lots of things did that, she’d decided.
