His name was Cole and he was a seventh year, she remembered. He probably wasn't going to notice her. Apparently he had a cat too. That wasn't strange. Almost everyone had a cat around here. She started reading from Common Magical Ailments and Afflictions, which she had in her train bag, with her self-shuffling playing cards and cat toys and... other stuff. It wasn't exactly a school book, but Ashley found it very interesting. Plus, she couldn't exactly get in trouble for extra reading, especially if it was helpful reading. It was kinda hard to get candy and read and think and pet a cat at the same time, but she was practically an expert multitasker. Quote:

As he neared the trolley, he saw several other people already there. He recognized Cole and Ashley from their encounter in Flourish and Blotts over the summer, but he didn't know the other girl (Juliette). asdfjkl!!! Too many people! His anxiety was already spiking. The more people there were, the harder it was for him to become something they'd all like. Maybe he should just go and get his candy later… No, he reminded himself. Even a bad impression is better than making no impression at all. Nearly fading from existence last term had taught him that! "Erm… hi," he said quietly, running a hand through his hair. As if on cue, Rey punctuated his words with a meep as she flopped on the floor in front of him. He smiled a little. Classic Rey… that cat had never met a stranger!
As Heath watched Rey wiggling, he noticed another, much bigger cat beside Cole. "Hi, kitty," he whispered. His eyes shifted from the cat to its owner as he asked, "What's your cat's name?" Rey the scavenger cat trotted alongside her hooman, on the hunt for some new friends. What she lacked in size, she made up for in personality! Everybody, human or creature, was a potential playmate for the tiny gray-striped cat. Her big blue eyes blinked as she looked at the other occupants. There were several other hoomans, one of which (Ashley) had a kitteh too, and - Ooh! There's a big fluffeh kitteh (Oscar)! Hiiiiii, other kittehs! Hiiiiii, hoomans! Rey flopped onto her back with a friendly meep. Who wants to pet me? Quote:

Merlin, everyone thought Juli talked a lot but they really needed to hear all this kid just said. She looked up from the beautiful creature and smirked at the girl. "Well my best friend and I do have plans for world domination." Which could still happen even if Juli was grounded. "What's a lifeguard?" Cause that sounded interesting. "Do you like... save people's lives or something like an Auror? My mum takes care of creatures at home and that's an awful lot of fun." Juliette herself? Well her pet project over the summer was trying to take care of her Wiggentree and cultivate a small army of bowtruckles. They were absolutely adorable.
She purchased a lot some jelly slugs from the trolley lady and put all but one in her bag. [b]"I'm Juliette. Gryffindor. Fourth Year. Basically the epitomy of awesometasticalness,"[b] she replied, deciding to eat one of the jelly slugs now. "I haven't seen you around before but it's a big school, are you like a second year or new or something?"
And it just seemed like everyone had a cat didn't they? Or a feline of sorts. And of these could be kneazles after all... if one of the two gentlemen would just let her inspect them. She recognized one of them (Cole) from around the common room. Juliette was pretty sure he was a Gryffindor. But there were also a million and one twins at the school so for all she knew this was a doppleganger of the dude in her house. The other boy (Heath), with the ever so fantastic hair, said hi. Juliette raised her hand and gave a little wave, the other was preoccupied with holding her jelly slug... of which she took another bite. "Sup?" Then she saw the nice hair boy's feline familiar roll over.
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWH. "Can I pet her?" Juliette asked, eyes wide. She had already bent down to the floor. She was going to pet the kitty (Rey) regardless of what anyone told her. "Oh you're a pretty girl aren't ya? Soooooo beautiful and lovely and smart and cute..."
Yes. Juliette could get used to this life - jelly slugs and cats. But speaking of cats... and the number of them... she looked up from her spot on the floor at her current company. "Was there a memo I missed or something? Was I supposed to bring a kneazle?" Cause she didn't. Owl? Check obviously. But a cat? Nope. Cole was trying to decide on what to buy from the delicious trolley treats when Oscar’s scratching up against his jeans leg alerted him to the arrival of another student. Glancing over his shoulder, he recognized the girl from the book shop immediately as well as the kitten in her arms. Smiling a little he greeted. "Hi Ashley! Cute kitten." Reaching down to scratch Oscar between the ears he hoped he was going to keep his cool. Oscar got anxious around other cats. Turning his attention back to the trolley he ended up buying two packs of chocolate frogs as well as some pumpkin pasties and jelly slugs.
Cole had just stuffed everything down into his jacket pockets and moved to the side to let Ashley get her treats when another girl with dark hair and glasses showed up and got talking with Ashley practically ignoring him and his cats presence. Having a sister he knew that she didn’t do it to be mean. Some just didn’t take in the rest of the surrounding until they were done looking at what was in front of them. When she finally turned her eyes on him, he recognized her from the common room. "Hi Juliette. Did you have a good summer?" Cole greeted. He was considering going back to his compartment to read his new quidditch magazine when Heath showed up with a cat in tow. "Hi Heath!" he waved over to the other boy. "My cat’s name is Oscar. What’s yours?" Oscar was content, sitting on the floor and scratching up against Cole’s jeans legs. The denim smelled good. The kitten in the girl’s arms he ignored. It wasn’t interesting. When another cat showed up with another boy Oscar stood up in all his big gray glory to eye the other cat out. Was it a friend or foe? At the meep and backroll from the other cat Oscar let out a hiss and moved closer to Cole's side.
