Gemma was infuriating. She always knew what to say to yank his chain so to speak. Before he could stop himself he slung back at her. "I have friends. I just don’t blabber about them all the time to mum and dad like you do." Perfect now she was going to want names. He technically didn’t really have friends; they were more acquaintances so far. And he had a small and secret crush on a girl in another year but Jackson was so not going to share that with his too nosy sister. Shaking his head he said "I doubt the hat will be a good conversation starter," It would probably make other students go circles around her to avoid the smell but Jackson wasn’t going to point that out. "Just don’t tell dad about the ‘I can do what I want’ part. He’ll panic and go into a speech to remind you that mum is a professor and you have to follow rules blablabla." It was what dad reverted to sometimes when mum wasn’t around.

Jackson shook his head vigorously at the smelly tie offer with a simple. "No! Just no! I want to look good on the first day of school." For all the pretty girls. A smelly tie was not going to be in his wardrobe. Sighing and pulling a hand through his hair he gave up. Gemma usually got her way anyway in the end. "Fine, if it’s just for a funny family picture then we can buy the smelly hat and tie and something for mum and dad, but there is no way on earth I’m wearing any of it to school." He had to draw a line.
