She wanted all the same things but in the form of a dragon.
Also, she loved when her friend got excited about her stuff. It made her more excited and validated a lot of her feelings. Kizzy did that without knowing, she made things feel right. "I might take it to creatures class but first I have to ask the professor so I'm gonna go find him the VERY first day. Just in case, to make sure. Wanna come?" Couldn't have him confiscated. "He hasn't learned how to fly yet but we can teach him. Auntie Jessa says he'll be growing for a while and we can show him things but mum wouldn't let her fix him so he can breathe fire. Apparently that's too much responsibility." Emm concluded in mocking tone, obviously not agreeing with her mother.
What was the worst thing a fire breathing baby dragon could do?
Oh, but a moment of silence for Sweetpea. Emmerson reached over to drape an arm across Kinsay's shoulder, giving her a tight squeeze. She'd been there at the sleepover and couldn't believe her eyes. "She's in a better place now, where all the magic animals go when they vanish." Wherever that was. "Hey! Why don't we share Artemis?? For this year anyway, then we can double super adorably beg Auntie Jessa to get you one, too! It'll be so much cooler than a regular toy or a pet and we don't have to feed them and they won't disappear. She'll make it JUST like a dragon. You've seen the cats." Once or twice probably at the manor when her aunt happened to be there with them, too. Undead as they were, they were no different than real cats (one technically a kneazle) in look, or behaviour. It was talent. "Smart," Kiz was impressed at the proactive thinking. Since dragons weren't on the list of approved pets. It would be VERY terrible to see Artemis get taken away. "Okay!" She nodded in delight, straightening her back. Kinsay hadn't planned to meet with any of her professors before classes started, but she'd obviously tag along with Emm. In case. Sometimes backup was good for these things. And they made a really good team. Begging for sleepovers made them professionals at garnering sympathy. It was another one of their skills. "We should teach him a new trick every day so that he'll know a zillion." It was really too bad about the fire though, Kiz made an appropriately sympathetic face to show that she was bothered by that too.
Honestly? In comparison, Sweetpea couldn't really do much of anything. So maybe Kiz wasn't as sad as she thought she was, but she did like the attention and kinds words. So. She soaked in it a little bit, you know? It wasn't a thing she often did, but sometimes it felt nice. "Yeah, you're right. Maybe she's in fish heaven." Which was a neat thought, though likely entirely untrue and made her laugh a little. If such a place did exist, Kinsay wanted to visit. Maybe she'd ask the creatures professor about that when she went with Emm.
She was still looking at the ground, thoughtfully, when Emm started idea-ing again. "REALLY!?" Yes, she was most definitely not sad anymore. Most definitely not envious anymore either. It was as if the last three minutes hadn't even happened because her WHOLE face had lit up at the proposal. "Oh, Emm, you're the best friend in the ENTIRE universe!" She gave her a tight hug to punctuate the point. "We can set up a bed for him in the dormitory and take him on walks and show him our routines..." The possibilities were just about endless. "And when Auntie Jessa makes me one, our dragons will be best friends too." In other words, Kiz was sold.
Somehow summer had flown by, literally.
The U-17 season had been off the charts and even more time consuming thanks to his "upgrade" to captain. He hadn't totally hated it...which had so much more to do with the team than the sport or the role. He liked his teammates and it always felt good to be a part of something - even if the pressure at being at the helm was suffocating and only added to the weight pushing down on him that he was just waiting to snap his spine in two. But this was fine. It was always fine.
Yes.
He actually felt a bit of relief being on the Hogwarts Express...even if it meant running into people he might not otherwise wish to. It meant a breather from pops and that was way better than the prospect of being locked in a compartment with Luz for the duration of the ride... or Spencer (which he wouldn't mind, actually) ... or Maia...as things unfortunately were turning out. Ideally he would like to spend a bit of the ride with Eliza, but for the time being Josh was looking over the itinerary of suggestions from pops as to his work out regime and ways to elevate it. Along with those reminders he did not need reminding of as the man had ingrained them so firmly in his head (honestly, it was a wonder the man had not made him a recording of him repeating the phrasing to play while he slept...like those motivational tapes of yore) that the sixth year was SEEING the words while awake.
Scouting had gone well this summer and offers were already in pending his graduation.
This. Was. Fine.
He was nose deep in his reading (and whistling) and nearly slammed into some others coming down the corridor in the opposite direction, but thankfully Josh had those stage reflexes and performed a somewhat elaborate but relaxed ballet leap and spin out of the way of his peers...and right into the compartment currently occupied by a couple of girls and...a dragon?
Well, right into it after his shoulder had somewhat ricocheted off the half open half closed door with a dull thud.
But...d r a g o n?
Uh. UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH. He had heard STORIES about dragons from some of his friends and what had happened that term they went to the French school (whose name he could NOT pronounce for the life of him and always came out like...well...maybe these two would find out during conversation). Letting out a bit of a sheepish chuckle while whistling on an exhale, he grinned at both girls and tried to recover from the, er, theatrical way he had entered their compartment.
"Hey there," he greeted with his Boston accent as thick as ever. "So...that's a rockin' looking dragon....is it real?"
No? Please say no.
