"I'm actually bad at magic, so thanks for bringing that up," she tucked her hair behind her ear before doubling down on her ice cream. Embarrassing. That's what it was to be barely competent at second year spells, miss an entire year due to memory loss, and be expected to perform at fourth year level. Awful. "But I think you could get your dad to do an Unbreakable Vow with you, right? Where he promises that he'll tell you if anything happens to your mum FIRST THING. Would that work?" Emm went back to slumping against the table. Her mama would never let Fifi stuff her into a trunk, but at the same time...her mama wasn't looking to let her stay home regardless. Either way, she wouldn't win. "Daddy doesn't need to do a non-breakable spell. He thinks it's okay if I stay home and Yoyo might stay home, too, so we could have classes together like we used to." She missed her sister and her tears had been effective against her father.
Again, it was one Alexa Cambridge that stood in the way. "And anyway I bet you're only saying you're bad at magic." No way Auntie Vivi would let her be bad at it for real. She was an Auror and knew a ton of spells and protected people. Fifi was full of hot air. "I only wanted you to make an extra me, like a copy. Then you could walk with the copy onto the train and I could hide somewhere until the train leaves and my mummy would never have to know until it's too late. I wouldn't tell her you helped and if you're so bad at magic, maybe she wouldn't believe me even if I did snitch. You've got nothing to lose."
And Emmerson had much to gain.
