Food… He gave her a bashful smile and then plucked up a few coins and finally handed them over to the vendor guy. His American accent was super highlighted when he replied. ”No-ope…” And in answer to her second question because it also explained his answer to the first, he said, ”Half a year. Just starting the second term of Uni.”
The vendor held out a bread bowl to them both. Kalen took his and then ambled off to the side. A normal person might have ambled on, but Kalen’s inner voice was yelling at him to keep talking. After all, he only knew (pretty wonderful funny) Anna and the blokes in dorm who he wasn’t even sure liked him. ”Winters back home are a lot colder. Never thought I'd say it, but I sorta miss 'em. Where are you from?”
She probably could have segued into conversation much more gracefully than just randomly speaking, considering his appeared surprise about her fairly random sounding question. She returned his smile, nodding slightly as he clarified food. She could tell from his accent that her second question might have been silly, he was very clearly from somewhere in the States, although she couldn't pinpoint where. She was terrible at geography and matching the way people spoke to locations in the world. She raised an eyebrow slightly,
"Edinburgh? Or are you apparating to a campus further away? I'm in my first term." Considering she'd decided to take a fair bit of time and try to 'find herself'.
Terrible idea really.
She smiled at the vendor as she moved forward to accept her food as well, moving off to the side so she wasn't in any other patrons way. She was surprised to see he hadn't fully meandered away, and seemed content to continue conversation. She was definitely grateful, as she still hadn't really met many people in London. She had her twin sister of course, and other friends would visit, but it wasn't quite the same. Hearing his comment, she chuckled and nodding her head in agreement.
"I agree with you on that. I grew up in the States. Alaska, specifically." They had been in Massuchusetts for awhile, but she'd been quite young back then.
"How about you?"
