The third year nodded solemnly and clicked off her flashlight as Kale's dad spoke, making up new rules as the class went along. It was a good thing they'd already celebrated Flora's birthday, since now that was illegal, and also, poor Phoebe couldn't even be properly murdered in class. Bernie sent a sympathetic LOOK her friend's way, just because. She'd already said she GOT BETTER, Kale's dad, gosh. SOMEBODY liked making up rules for no reason.
When it was her turn to jump in the story, Bernie clicked her flashlight on her face and added on to what Isla was saying, remembering just in the nick of time that Kale's dad wanted them to reference the bubak. Oh yeah. She could do that. "The perfectly well-behaved kids, who WEREN'T suck-ups but who LIKED a little fun, decided to dress up like a scarecr---er, a bubak, to frighten the annoying bootlickers, who were about to go on a... on a corn maze. Because it was October."
