But did he reply any of these reasonable excuses to Genny? Of course not.
"I wasn't hungry until I got here." Great answer, well done, Truebridge. He smiled and squinted in their general direction, assuming 'us' meant Genny and Sam. Nothing new there, but he did think they might go somewhere...er, nicer after the match. He would never want to intrude on the happy couple doing couple things, like a romantic dinner. Surely even the Leaky Cauldron was more suited to a date night than this guy's falafel stand? But what would David know. He'd never properly dated anyone.
David shrugged a little and blinked amicably at them, and at Sam's blurry outline specifically. "Hullo Sam." Had to greet him too, see? Davie was a polite, non-drama causing lad. Quote:

But honestly, the way she told him so casually was extremely irritating; it just highlighted that she really hadn't given any consideration to Sam's going.
"Yes, fine." They'd talk about it later. That was that.
Sam followed Genny to join David's place further up in the line. Could they order already? Genny clearly needed food, and lining Sam's stomach wouldn't hurt his mood either. It was a good thing that they were next in line.
"Hi, David." Sam was polite back, see. Regardless of his lack of enthusiasm. Why was he blinking so much? Odd. Genny blinked at David. What? "Okay. I guess...? That's weird, David." The greetings? Wow. "Calm down, guys, we're in public." she commented, borrowing their sarcastic sense for a moment, not looking at either one of them except the vendor who was now only one person away from them. Two sandwiches, extra hot sauce, no cabbage. Sam better remember this because... well because he just better. She didn't deserve to be offered food by him right now, but she wanted it and she craved lots of things after a losing match including food and affection. Losing the latter made her cling to the former.
It was when she looked at Davie about to ask what he was getting when she noticed his squinting. "Why are you squinting like a mouse?" Did he have his contacts on? Or glasses? Why did she forget what David actually wore? |
