Or maybe she'd just received too many bludgers to the head because any normal person would realize that this was the kind of thing that you at least mention to your boyfriend.
"Well, lovely. Great foresight, thanks for telling me," he answered sarcastically, annoyed at her daftness. "It's not like I work for the ministry or anything." How weird was it going to be when Genny showed up to a fancy event hosted by his workplace, with their roommate?? And Sam showed up, what, alone? Pfft. No way he was going stag. To be honest, he didn't even know if he was going to go in the first place, but that was beside the point here.
There was a gust of wind, and he swept a hand over his carefully disheveled hair to make sure it was still in place. This was the precise moment when some random person in line turned around and called Genny by name. Okay, not a random person. David himself, how convenient. "Speak of the devil," Sam mumbled, refraining from an eyeroll. Ironically, as far as Genny's friends went, David had been growing on him somewhat. He wasn't some blabbermouth hot shot like some of her quidditch teammates, and he kept things tidy at the flat, which bode well for him in Sam's eyes. But given Sam's current annoyance, Genny's new date didn't exactly have the best timing.
Genny huffed, turning her head away from Sam while he started his sarcastic ritual of passive-aggressiveness. Wasn't it clear that she didn't want to be held accountable for her poor decisions today? "Please don't do this," she breathed out, forcefully quiet. "I was going to tell you. It's not a big deal." He was making this to be way bigger than it was. Yeah, sure, it was a little stupid of her for not remembering that Sam would probably go to his job's annual ball as well, but she didn't exactly sit down and think about it. She was a little preoccupied with training, running into Mason and being asked not to be friends, then more exercising. And now losing a game against the stupid 2 W's.

He knew she wasn't the........what is an appropriate word here.........nicest person to be around when she had just lost, so after the match ended, he did his usual disappearing act and decided to find something to eat, because he didn't cook and he didn't want to go back to their smallish flat yet.
He'd really taken to wandering around London on his own, after all. It was peaceful time of day, early evening, and the sun was still up for the next few, so here he was, standing in line at this...Muggle shop...thing...food...cart? His hunger had drawn him here but per usual he was overthinking his hasty decision to purchase something from the vendor, particularly since the man running it may have had questionable hygiene practices, hairy hands, and a rather large spiderweb tattoo on his neck.
David did not approve, but he hadn't gotten out of line yet. He was still trying to count the Muggle money in his pocket to calculate what his change would be IF he did buy a sandwich or wrap or whatever it was when his ears caught a familiar-sounding voice. Perhaps it was his imagination, but he could have sworn a couple a little ways behind him kept saying his name??
He turned slightly, leaning out of the queue to see if it was who he thought it was. "Genny?" Was that her? He didn't have his glasses on at the moment, er, at all actually, ever since that tornado woman took them.... Plus quidditch was actually more tolerable when he could only half-see what was going on, so he didn't have his contacts in either.
"Oh, hey." Genny replied automatically when David called her name from ahead of them in the line. She looked up at Sam, deflated but also fierce eyes, "Don't be a jerk now, we can talk about this later." Genny would've held his hand now to join David, but she didn't want to be refused any types of display of affection when her self-esteem wasn't too high. And yes, maybe she was thinking selfishly but she wouldn't recognize that now. Maybe after a day or so.
With a small tug of Sam's sleeve, Genny started cutting people in front of them, "Excuse us, excuse me, sorry," until they made it to Davie. "Hey, you. What a coincidence. Why didn't you join us right after the match if you're hungry, too?" It was weird he skipped them, almost like he evaded them. They lived together, they might as well eat and go back home together.
Ahem, also, with Davie around, Sam might stop with the guilt-tripping.......? |
