And, fortunately, the source of her irritation today wasn't Sam.
He had known by the last few minutes of the match that post-match Genny wouldn't be a hoot. For as much as he loved the girl, she was never exactly the best loser. In true good-boyfriend form, he wrapped an arm around her shoulder and attempted to improve her spirits. Comforting was never his forte, but he did genuinely try when it came to Genny. Whether or not he was successful was another story.
"It's a shame you guys lost today, but that's part of the game, I suppose." Mm, not exactly his best, but it was true, right? He went on. "You'll probably face them again in playoffs, after all – you can beat them then, when it counts." Or counts more, that is. Sam sucked at comforting, true, but only when it sprouted out of his own version of what Genny wanted at the moment. He excelled at it when he went with the flow and let her dictate her channel of relief, but let's not dwell on that right now. Sam was doing his best, she could feel that. She accepted the arm-wrapping gesture by leaning into him a little, though keeping her arms crossed and her brows furrowed. "Oh please don't give me the standard you-lost-and-you-suck-but-it-is-not-the-end-of-the-world speech." she didn't mean to sound exasperated, but immediately as she said that, she heard her exasperation in her tone. "I'm sorry, I'm just..." her eyes caught sight of some baseball advertisement in the street, muggle sports for those who didn't know. She knew of those types of sports but never tried playing any. All her life focused around Quidditch. "...maybe I should change to baseball or something. Or even better, asports without a bat..." Okay, this time she sounded stupid and dramatic.
... what was this smell, by the way? Genny's brown eyes caught sight of the vendor by the huge statue. Was this sandwich stand there all the time? She was locked in that mood where she didn't want to admit that a falafel wrap would cheer her up... so Sam had to figure that out all by himself. All she did to help was to steer them in that direction and try not to stare too intently at the vendor.
Subtlety was not her game EITHER, but she was learning. Dating a pseudo-Ravenclaw taught her a lot of things including subtlety and collecting her laundry in a hamper instead of sprawling them on the chair for Coco to play with them all week. |
