She turned to head away from the water's edge when another one came... dancing by her. She yelped and jumped backwards into the water splashing up her robes, before the thing also disappeared with the rest. She looked down at herself and sighed slightly, before once again scurrying back to the rest of the group.
Oh. Okay. So now they were going to spread out into teams? Evenly matched teams at that. She could see people already grabbing their spots with different teams, and she watched for a moment quickly calculating the current numbers. Team Green seemed the lowest currently, but thankfully it also had Islay.
Smiling over at the other girl, she nodded at the question. "Would super love to." TEAM GREEN, FOR THE WIN. Quote:

This was something petty; the Blazes could afford an entire replacement robe and then some. She tossed one last glare at the horse then shifted her attention to Trent. Right. No touching. This was not CoMC. But when she heard that there was group work next, Claudine inwardly groaned. Why, Trent, Why? Ugh. There were so many persons she wanted to avoid...A quick recon told her that team Green was best so far so she drifted towards Islay and Kimberly. “Hi. So, do some of us provide a distraction while the others try to get the bridle on?’’ the third year asked, wanting to get this over with ASAP. Quote:

He braced for impact as the horse neared, and… it stopped.* Whoa, he actually did it! He took on a kelpie (not a real one, but that didn't matter right now) and won! HA! I hope you enjoyed the show, you dumb horse, he thought, taking one last look at the wooden horse.
For the first time since class started, Heath felt like he'd done something right. Who would've guessed his approach would be one of the few not getting criticized in front of everyone? He listened intently to the next set of instructions, relieved to learn they wouldn't be facing a real kelpie, though the mention of group work diminished his newly found confidence. Given the choice, he'd take the kelpie! At least he knew what it would do - anything it could to kill him. How a group of strange people would react to him was anyone's guess!
As scared as Heath was of what the other students might do if he tried to join, he was more scared of what Trent would do if he didn't! He looked around, eyes scanning for the group with the fewest people. Team green it is! Okay, Heath, you can do this! he thought, taking a deep breath to steel his nerve as he approached. Don't stammer, don't make any Star Wars references. Just be cool… "Hey, mind if I join?" he asked the trio of girls (Islay, Kimberly & Claudine). He remembered Claudine, but he'd never talked to the two older girls before. "I'm Heath, by the way," he added.
He nodded approvingly at Claudine's idea. "Good idea," he said, "and I think I know how to distract it." The question was would anybody be willing to listen to him? He was the only boy here, and two of the girls (Islay and Kimberly) were older than him. They might not like being told what to do by a younger student, but it was worth a try! "If one of us acts weak and defenceless, the kelpie may see that person as an easy target and come to us… The rest of us should spread out - it probably won't come if we're all bunched together - and when it comes, sneak up and cover it from the sides and back. Whoever's at the back should try casting the placement charm first, with the people at the sides on standby to cast if the first attempt goes wrong. If we surround it from all sides, odds are at least one of us will be in the right position to guide the bridle…"
Heath blinked in disbelief as his voice trailed off. Had he really just said all that? Look at him, coming up with a plan of attack like a little Resistance general! Part of him was proud of that, but mostly he was worried what the others would think. Would think it was a dumb idea? Or worse, would they be mad at him for speaking up at all? What if they thought he was trying to be bossy? Oh Merlin, he didn't want to find out! Quote:

Which sounded funny when she put it like that, but that was okay!
What wasn't okay was the wildly dancing horse coming right for her.
She dodged out of the way juuuust in time to avoid being trampled right into the ground. And then the horses disappeared and...they were moving on to another activity. This time with teams and more realistic kelpies.
Neat!
She definitely wanted to join Team Purple because it was her favorite color, buuuut...the Headmaster had said the teams needed to be even, and it looked like that one had lots of people already, so... Green team then? Yeah, green was a good color too! She walked over to the group in time to hear them laying out strategy ideas. And one boy already offering to be the bait distraction. "I think that sounds like a good plan!" Certainly worth a try at least! Distractions definitely seemed to worked on the wooden horses, so it'd probably be good on keeping the kelpies from avoiding a bridle too. "And don't worry," she added, giving Blake a smile, "I'm sure we'll be able to bridle it, but even if we somehow don't, the Headmaster is here to back us up, yeah?" She was trying to be reassuring, though whether it actually was was up to the Slytherin boy to decide. She thought it was though, 'cause obviously nothing really bad would happen since they weren't real real kelpies. The Headmaster wouldn't let something happen to them during his class anyway, especially on the first day back. That would be embarrassing! Quote:

Oh teams. That means she may have a chance at success and she liked success. She heard the girl who had caught one choose green. Oh team green it was. She heard that one of them would be the bait and distract while the others could possibly get the other one tamed. She was liking the sounds of this so far. Quote:

Well, she’d try to ignore his existence as usual. Ivy and Charlie got a nod of welcome before Claudine eyed all of Team Green. So, who was going to be calling the shots here? A positive note was that most of them seemed to accept her suggestion of distracting the kelpie. “Heath has a good plan. I think it might work, especially if we have multiple persons backing up each other in terms of fitting the bridle. So… Team Distraction? Blake. Obviously “Heath? Ivy?’’ She looked at them for confirmation. “Team Bridle Fitters… myself. Islay and Kimberly? Charlie?” Look, she wasn’t ordering them around, just giving the suggestions which was why she checked with the team members first. “If everyone is okay with the plan, we should get started. Remember what Trent said: most spells won’t work against kelpies like Shield Charms.’’ Claudine began moving cautiously towards the green coloured kelpie. Quote:

Well, this wasn't part of the plan! He was supposed to be the bait; that way nobody else would have to get hurt if his strategy didn't work!
Before Heath could try to talk Blake out of offering himself as bait, one of his younger housemates (Ivy) and Charlie joined them, and Claudine was making suggestions on how to divide into teams and… it took him a moment or two to process everything going on. "Right," he replied, nodding at Claudine. "I'll help with the distraction. I'm an actor, and I'm rubbish at wandwork; I'd just slow the bridle fitters down."
And for that matter… "Who's good at casting spells?"Heath asked the group as a whole. "We should probably have our strongest casters take the back. That way, we'll have a better chance of getting the bridle fitted on the first try… before the kelpie realizes what's happening."
Heath turned to Blake, who was already on the ground. "Great start," he said with an encouraging smile, "but I think the horses might know something's up if you're already on the ground when they turn up. How about if you preyend to be injured, like you've got a broken leg or something? I'll come help you but act all flustered and panicky, like I don't know what I'm doing." Was anybody else joining the distraction team? Just in case, he added, "Anybody else helping with the distraction, act like you're trying to help Blake but don't know what to do. Pretend to panic, bumble, stare off into space.. whatever you can think of to appear an easy target to the kelpie."
He got into position to "help" Blake when the time came, concentrating on getting into character. Okay, showtime! Quote:

And Kimberly was very happy to see that in her moment of spacing out, the others had already come up with a decent plan in order to take on the Kelpie. Distraction was good, she had seen quite a few people get that to work with the wooden horses. But the biggest thing here was, she was assuming there was a difference between the wooden horses who while ended up dangerous, weren't as murderous as the Kelpies could be. She'd managed to get her bridle on by just appearing uninterested. She was going to hazard a guess that would not work on the Kelpie.
Hearing the plan, she had no objections really to the idea of distraction -- looking weak would also be best since the demon horse would be focused on wanting to take them to the murky depths anyways -- but what she wasn't quite on board with was the plans of attack from behind. The bridle needed to go on the horses front end, and from the back she was concerned they might not be able to get a good enough angle to get the proper positioning. "I think we definitely have a good idea going here. What if we hid a bridle and one of our spellcasters in the Distraction group though? That way we have the Kelpie covered from all angles, as we do need to be able to get a clear shot to the face." She glanced at the already determined teams and gave a small nod towards Ivy. "I think to be on the safe side we should hide a bridle on Ivy as well. She was able to get one over her wooden horse."
But otherwise, she was good. So she cautiously began to move towards the Kelpie, following after Claudineas well while the others took their positions. She was decent enough at spell casting, so she figured she could take one of the side positions and also throw in a distraction if things started looking poor for the ones in front. Islay was so happy to see how well everyone else was working out on their kelpies, even if she had well…failed? Hilariously. When Kimmie walked over she just smiled over to the Hufflepuff, ”of course! We’ll be awesome” she grinned at her, and even smiled brightly as she saw the young Slytherin girl walking over.
Islay looked over to Claudine and smiled, ”hey – nice try out there – and I think that is a brilliant idea, distractions would be smart.” with that being said Islay used her wand to summon her notepad and began writing down all of the ideas…after all she wanted this to work out well.
When the ravenclaw boy walked over Islay just grinned wasn’t he….her dormmates sister? she wondered and just shrugged her shoulder giving him a grin ”I don’t mind – I’m open to anyone joining” she smiled happily as she began jotting down the names of everyone working together on her notepad as well. ”we have to keep an eye on whoever is pretending to be defenseless, like…yeah maybe wands at the ready at all times so we can easily cast relashio and slice a sleeve if we must? or any part of clothing the horse decided to grab…or hair, anything really except bodies – that would be bad.
When Blake walked up Islay grinned over to the guy ”hi everyone, I’m Islay – like the island in the Hebrides…” she smiled over to all of them and continued to tap her pencil onto the paper sureenough there was a newcomer. ”Hey nice work out there Grimm,” Islay grinned at the girl even giving her a thumbs up. CHARLIE, aww she got a little wave as she joined them.
Claudines words got a little grin, ”right most shield charms won’t work as Headmaster Trent said – “ oh they were doing this – a part of her was panicking as she didn’t want anyone to die. literally, they could die.. ”if any of us feel like we’re pinned down or in real danger send sparks from your wands and we could change positions – y’know like quick maneuvering and distractions so that we can all stay alive.” Islay had to agree with most of what everyone was saying – especially Kimmie’s words on hiding a bridle on Ivy. ”you okay with carrying an extra bridle Ivy?...” she paused for a second ”we could always do something and have multiple people with bridles incase the kelpie tries snacking on it?” she offered, looking round at everyone as she tucked the note pad away.
Plan Elements Distraction Act defenseless??? (possibly dangerous?) Hide bridle on ivy The young Stark got a little wave as she walked over and joined team green. "hey welcome aboard, -- i'd offer to do either myself. I mean, i was wretched earlier i just turned the darn thing off" she said with a half laugh and grinned at everyone. "i think we're gonna be good! we have a solid plan"
