"Well hi, Rufus." Flynn said, greeting the wampus next of all. It felt like a good idea, to y'know, involve the leashed and harnessed creature even just a tad. Acknowledging its presence. "You're sure handsome, aren't ya?" He took a good grip on the leash and then looked at Claudine. Bait?

"Maybe. Do you think Rufus is smart enough to know what we're saying though? And what about Cabriole?" And just to see what Rufus thought of things, Flynn dangled the dazzler cat toy in front of him. No harm trying, right?

Whereas Flynn was eager to be chummy with Rufus, Claudine was not. Still, as she had approached Flynn and Williamson in time to overhear a bit of their conversation, she had to admit that the Hufflepuff was right: Rufus was a handsome boy. “You ought to be careful… I’d listen to Professor Williamson about not looking directly at Rufus unless you have the willpower to fight him off?’’ She arched an eyebrow in skepticism before considering the questions. “I’m not sure but I think he is smart enough to gather things from actions and our tone of voice. Without realising it, Claudine was squinting at Rufus’s neck. Her subconscious reasoning behind this decision was that should Rufus look at her, she’d be able to shut her eyes quickly. Yes, she was that suspicious of Rufus. But the toy went flying now and she shook her head. “I think the toy can help lure him around the course. Shall we, Flynn? And for Merlin's sake don’t look at him in the eyes or I’ll jinx you. What if he wants you to… I don’t know… lick thestral poop off the ground?’’ Cue eye roll at the partner. All that Fiona had been telling her to do was to open the cage but Claudine was not going to disclose that.
