It was proper work.

"The luring isn't out of your control, no. There isn't some subliminal mind control. Some people are simply more easily led. Keep in mind, also, that it isn't always a horse. It can be just about anything. To an unsuspecting traveller, a perfectly inconspicuous form can be disarming." That was part of the danger.
Isla gave the headmaster a blank stare. What did he mean how would she ensure that it worked? It was no different than any other charm, spell, transfiguration, etc., etc. that she'd ever learned. You practice it in class and when the time comes, it either works for you or it doesn't. Your fate. It confused her even further that the luring wasn't out of her control. Was she missing something here? Because Whitlock's idea of taking a run for it was looking better by the second. Nevertheless, she nodded along as he answered her question.

He paused to demonstrate the wand movement twice for them and was willing to again until he reminded himself the horses weren't likely to do them in. Had to remember to breathe here.

"The bridles you'll need are in the bucket over there." He pointed and waited for them to spot it. "Grab one then get practising. A point to note, you'll have to guide the object to where you want it secured." In this case, the face region but that went without saying, yes?

"If there are no questions, go get a bridle then get starte--wait." Wait wait wait. "One more thing. Be careful, yeah? These horses aren't the most friendly." As a disclaimer to those who thought they'd be making friends today. "Happy hunting!" They'd...they'd understand why in a minute.
A seminar on safety?! NOPE. They better wisen up fast, because Isla wasn't all about some extra classes. At all.

She jumped a bit when a full-on army of horses appeared. What were they so upset about it? Somebody had gone and stirred up their bee hives for whatever reason, and now it looked like the class was left to deal with it.

Isla stared at the horse ahead of her. Great. She was face to face with something she'd apparently not yet figured out exactly how to defeat. She did know one thing. She was certainly not going to walk right on up to it and punch it (whoever had said that). Isla collected herself a bridle, all whole watching over shoulder for the kelpie, and then moved back to her face-to-face combat with the horse.

Isla got a good grasp on the bridle and tossed the first part of it into the air right in front of her. "FIXATE!" she called out, and then she used the point of her wand to guide it toward the horse and hopefully secure it into place. With any luck, maybe the part that secured its mouth shut would go on first, and then she could use a little magic to get the rest in place.

Hopefully.

Not likely.
