Kelpies. Water Horse Demon things? Besides every other danger there was in the water, there were also Kelpies? Goodness. Although, Alexia liked to think that nobody she knew would be so stupid as to go on a horse that came out of the water like the Professor said. Then again, she had impulsively dyed her hair, so she wasn't really one to talk about making smart decisions.
Alexia had an answer to the question right away. Step one: scream as best she could under water, and step two: kick it and try to get a head start to get away. She wasn't sure if those were the answers her Professor wanted, however. Something about screaming didn't exactly sound very much like a defense against the dark arts tactic. Especially the attempt to scream underwater. That seemed like it would just waste air, and give the Kelpie a couple of seconds to get you before the kick. She was going to have to reformulate the answer.
Once Alexia finally figured out what she wanted to say, she raised her hand to speak. "Okay, so first things first, I'd probably be a little bit scared." It sounded lame, but who WOULDN'T be scared? It was a water demon! "But that's like the initial shock. So after getting over the initial shock, I would try to get away. Give a good and powerful kick, preferably in the nose or near the face. Then as it was reeling from that, try and swim away as fast as I could." It probably wasn't the answer he was expecting, but she didn't know enough magical things yet to be confident enough to cast a good charm or spell on it. And she wasn't going down without a good fight. So her legs were going to have to do. She had also watched a documentary that said that this was how you got away from sharks. It seemed like a good comparison.
