It was very nice for her aura, which in some other classes tended to get clogged and stressy. "Good Morning, Professor," she said with a nod in her direction. She didn't really smile at many of her professors yet. She didn't know them well enough! It wasn't that Aboli wasn't friendly - she very much was when she wanted to be - buuuuut she wasn't going to pass around free smiles. But she did nod her head politely in her direction.
She almost jumped at the sudden movement of SOMETHING on the ground but it seemed to just be...a toy...of some sort. So Aboli took a seat and pulled her knees to her chest to hug them there. She wasn't afraid, but it was making her a bit skittish. "Hi there," She said softly. "Hello dear - I hope you're adjusting to Hogwarts well," Gabi greeted the first one in the door - Aboli, the Slytherin transfer. Her own son had been a transfer a few times, so she sympathized. The toy niffler sniffed the legs of the chair as the Slytherin girl pulled her knees up to her chest. Was she hiding something? Maybe a bracelet or earrings? It stood up and sniffed at the air before turning and running away to the next desk. Quote:

Claudine blinked twice, squeezing her eyelids tightly together so that her eyes would adjust quickly. When they did, she took notice of the professor on the desk. "Good morning, Professor.'' A quick greeting meant that she could quickly settle into a seat at the regular spot at the back of the room. Only... What was that?
Surely something had just scuttled past her? "Good morning Miss Blaze," Gabriela smiled at the young Slytherin, watching out of the corner of her eye as the toy niffler scurried past her desk. Quote:

Some might groan but it all just made him realize how much he'd missed out on for these years. Things he'd discussed with the Headmaster. Things he was assured he'd receive some extra help with while he caught up.
Kitt walked into the classroom with his usual enthusiastic smile. "Hey, Professor!" There was even a pep in his step. Boy, this countryside weather had been brilliant so far. What were the chances it would stay this way? He could get used to nothing but sunshine and magic for the whole year--because surely, the weather had been magicafied like the roof in the Great Hall and he was here for it. "Brilliant morning, isn't it? The sun makes your hair look silky and smooth. Is that magic, too?" Hellooooooo there. "What's that?" The furry thing. Gabi chuckled and shook her head. "No, no, just quite a bit of hair product," she told the young, eager Gryffindor. Although it was nice to have it appreciated! She DID put a lot of work into her appearance, obviously.
She intentionally didn't answer his question, though, instead smirking at him and shrugging a little as the toy ran in between his shoes and on to the next student. Quote:

"Good morning, Professor," Nem greeted the woman in a sing-song voice as they stepped into the classroom and took up one of the seats, kicking their bag under the table but not bothering to grab anything from it. In seconds, their eye was drawn by whatever it was scurrying around the floor, and they leaned forward to try and get a better view of it. Except that it soon became clear that it wasn't even real - fake, enchanted - so Nem slumped back again. Just in case it was extra lifelike, they slipped their new ugly silver sovereign ring off their thumb and held it in their clenched fist, but otherwise sat quietly, waiting for things to kick off. Nem earned themselves a smile in return from Gabi. Everyone was so cheerful this morning! It was probably because they hadn't quite gotten the term kicked off just yet - so everyone was still in Eager Student mode. It would be like this for about another week, Gabi predicted, before they all started losing their excitement for her class. OOOOH, what was that?! The toy was very observant and noticed that Nem had taken their ring off and hidden it in their fist. The niffler paused and stood on it's hind legs, examining the closed fist before determining it could probably find something easier and shinier before running off. Quote:

She liked this class, she participated, and she didn't mention that France would be better at the bottom of an ocean somewhere.
Phoebe startled as something touched her ankle, and she hopped up on the nearest chair with a squeak. "Excuse moi, but I think we have rats. Or were we allowed to bring cats to this class too?" Gabi chuckled. "Bonjour, Miss James. That's not a rat, I assure you," she added with another smirk. Where had the toy run off to? Last she had seen it had been by Nem...oh, there it was! Good thing she'd enchanted it to stay within the confides of the rows of desks. She could keep track of it, and it was more fun that way. Quote:

Her first week back at school had been relatively uneventful, though she was already feeling a bit stressed about her upcoming assignments. Schoolwork was always something that she thrived on, though, and at least she still had the beginning-of-the-semester enthusiasm. The young Ravenclaw entered the classroom and grabbed a seat. "Hi, Professor Recard," she said with a small wave. Just as Avalon reached into her bag to pull out her textbook, she noticed a flicker of something out of the corner of her eye. Thinking it was just a trick of the light, she sat back up. But then she heard a slight rustling sound, and a fluffy blob whirred past her vision again. What in the world was that? "Hello Miss Sinclair," Gabi replied in greeting to the Ravenclaw as she watched her take a seat. Quote:

She gave the woman one of her signature grins and headed over to take a seat, nearly stepping on the furry little thing moving about the room. OOPS!
Were they going to be bringing creatures to all their classes now? Merlin, she really should have picked a pet when she'd had the chance. "It was, thank you," Gabi said. She hadn't had a chance to catch up with many of them since the term had started - hence why she'd opened up this class a bit more casual.
Meanwhile, the toy niffler had just had a near death experience - but not really. Because it was a toy. And that didn't stop it from trying to fiddle with the buckle on Cece's shoes before it gave up and decided to find something better. And hopefully shinier! Quote:

"Morning, Professor!" she said, her greeting not giving much of a hint that she wished she was back in bed.
She bee-lined for a seat but nearly tripped over some toy scurrying around on the floor. Really, Recard? She couldn't have thought of a better time to let loose a niffler? Isla stepped past it and sunk into a seat, instantly tucking her feet under her in case the toy scurried back this way. "We going on a treasure hunt or something today?" she asked. That sounded kind of fun. Really fun, actually. Oooh, a treasure hunt? That was a very good guess - it would make sense given the niffler, but Gabi shook her head. "No, we're not Miss Bellchant, but that was a good guess," she encouraged her with a grin. Quote:

It was a nice change to things.
Entering the HoM classroom, he was surprised by how bright the room was. Wow. He hadn't expected an autumn day in Scotland to be so beautiful. He squinted and entered the room. Should have brought his sunglasses in here.
"Morning Professor!" he greeted the HoM Professor before grabbing a seat near Aboli. Just as he was about to sit down, he felt something scurry past him. Interesting, he thought, and sat down. "Wish I brought my shades," he whispered, joking to Aboli. "Hello Mister Nam," Gabi smiled at him as she watched him take a seat. The niffler had made it over to the Gryffindor, looking at his bag with interest. It fiddled with the buckle of the bag and managed to get enough space to stick its head inside, before it determined that this was BORING and moved on to it's next victim. Quote:

The sunshine had helped keep her energy up, too. “Good morning, Professor Recard,” she replied as the HoM professor had greeted them all. “My summer was good. How was yours?,” she added, settling into a seat after easily steeping over the creature zipping around the floor. Wales had done well, as far as she had felt. Said creature was intriguing, though. If anything, it made her wonder if there was going to be a sort of theme in lessons this term. "Hello Prefect Rose," Gabi greeted her with a grin. "Oh, it was lovely and relaxing. Especially after last term," she added with a small chuckle. Hopefully no sword wielding house founders this term - although you never knew around here. Quote:

Still, she entered the classroom and gave her professor a polite nod in acknowledgement before moving to find a place to sit. Selecting the right seat was very important. It determined how the rest of the year would turn out, as everyone knew that your seating choice your first week back determined where you would be sitting for the rest of the year. Unassigned seats. Common courtesy.
Once she found her spot, she began to unpack her bag, taking the time to arrange her quills, notebook, and some spare parchment in case. She liked to be full--"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!" WHAT WAS CRAWLING UP HER LEG!?!? ...Gabi didn't need to be a Divination expert to predict that someone was going to panic about the niffler running around, and she also wasn't at all surprised that it was Nina. SIGH. "It's alright, Miss Castillo. It's not real," she assured the Slytherin. In case she fainted, she had some Calming Draught - every good Healer would be prepared like that in a room of dramatic teenagers. The niffler hadn't expected that loud SCREECH as it ran up the leg of one of the newcomers. Oh no. No no no. That was far too loud - whatever shiny things sh emight have, it was not worth it! It immediately let go, fell to the floor with a PLOP and regained it's balance before running off and looking for shiny objects once again. Quote:

She was startled when something brushed past her leg unexpectedly.
Naya jumped and then realized that it was only a toy that must have been charmed. Breathing out in relief, she continued to prepare for class. After putting her bag down, she sat back and got comfortable. Now what did this little toy have to do with their lesson? She supposed that she would find out soon enough. Gabi tried not to smirk so obviously when she saw the girl get startled by the niffler - she had hoped they would all be a little spooked by it, but in a fun, joking sort of way. Not in a completely over the top way looking at you Miss Castillo. "Hello Miss Lindsay," she greeted the Gryffindor, her eyes following the niffler as it ran away a moment later. Quote:

Mark found his desk right beside Nina's. He set his bag down beside his legs and got out his notes and his quill. Just as he was about to take his seat Nina's 'Eep!' caught him by surprise and he missed sitting in his seat entirely thudding onto the floor rear first. Maybe he should find a different seat.
he stood up rubbing his bum and pulling his chair closer uncomfortable sitting into it looking over at Nina shaking his head. Gabi found herself sitting up a little, standing up and ready to jump in to action as she watched Mark land right on his bum. "Mister Gunter! Are you ok?" she asked in concern. He looked like he was getting up ok, so that was promising. She was on standby, just in case... Quote:

But, she had promised her mom in exchange for letting her transfer she would at least try to have a better track record with her education.
This was already proving a difficult and boring promise.
Stepping into the classroom with her book bag over her shoulder, she nodded to the Professor muttering a quick "Hello, Professor" before moving through the desks in hope of finding a spot to plop into towards the back. Thankfully there was at least one good seat still open. Settling into it and pulling out her books and quills, K glanced around at the other students, shooting a quick smile at the familiar faces such as Noah and Avalon before slumping down into her seat.
Her observation skills were sub par, so she did not notice the things on the ground that her fellow classmates seemed to. "Hello dear," Gabi greeted her, eyeing her a bit even though she was smiling. Gabi had a knack for knowing when people just did NOT want to be in History of Magic - she'd learned it early on in her career. She had a feeling the Hufflepuff was one of those students. As long as she tried, that was all she was asking! Quote:

Was Gabi imaging things, or was this lesson a bit...fuller than normal? Oh, how exciting! The niffler toy paused to inspect the newest Slytherin to enter the room. It stood up, looked up at her and sniffed a little before deciding...nah. It turned tail and ran, heading on to the next desk. Quote:

This was an accomplishment, apparently, as one Ravenclaw missed his seat entirely and one Slytherin (HI NINA) showed herself to be frightened of toys.
"Hello, Professor," she greeted her properly, in the Queen's English, and then took to staring at the toy thing. Was it--- what she thought it was? What did animals have to do with History class? Consider her interested. Hmm. Bernie wasn't sitting by Claudine - that was odd, especially given the MISCHIEF they'd gotten themselves in to last term. Oh yes, Gabi was not going to forget THAT episode any time soon. She greeted the Gryffindor with a head nod, smiling at her as she took her seat. "Good morning Miss Grantham," she told her in response. Quote:

Islay’s bag was still slung over her shoulder as she found a seat not far off from where Noah and Kimmie happened to be sitting. Swiftly she started putting her textbook, pens, and notepad on her desk as she waited for class to start. So many students acting like they had never seen sunlight before! Well, she didn't blame them. This was Scotland, after all. Still, their corneas weren't going to burn away from a bit of sun! "Hello Miss Moreau," Gabi nodded at her as she took her seat. Quote:

Since Professor Recard seems to be chill about it, then it must be hers.
Cool. Another themed class they will be having today. Jillian likes it. More room for discussion.
She quietly went on her way and sat next to the Hufflepuff prefect (Carys). She set her bag on the table- not on the floor today, she doesn't want whatever that thing is crawling in her bag. So no. Not today. She glanced over to Carys and smiled. Greeting her hello but in a much softer tone. Another one who always had amazing energy! Gabi loved to see it, honestly. "Hello Prefect Kim!" she couldn't help but beam at her bubbly attitude as the Slytherin sat down. The niffler hurried up to the newcomer and looked up at her with sad eyes. It couldn't reach the bag up there! It debated for a moment climbing up the leg of the desk and trying its luck up higher - but no, that was a LOT of effort and it had little legs. So off it went! She took a seat as instructed, but jumped up again when she saw something scurrying around under the desks and chairs. The first thing that came to mind was: huge cockroach (ugh!), but after observing it again she realised that it had fur, only four legs and no antennae. And it was a toy. Okay yeah, she didn't think Recard would allow household pests in her classroom in the first place. Jina returned to her seat and took out her supplies to prepare for the lesson. She did not have any shiny object on her, so hopefully she could ignore the toy for the time being. "I did, thank you Miss Morin," Gabi responded to the Ravenclaw with a small smile. It was sad to think that she would be graduating this term - she had many great insights in class and would be missed. Quote:

Trying to put on a good face she smiled, “Hello Professor” She still hadn’t established where she liked sitting in the room she realized it was much brighter than usual and she was not a fan. Now she needed to find a place to sit that... oh absolutely not there was something scurrying across the floor apparently because she watched Nina climb into her chair. Charlie was ready to turn on her heel and come back when things weren’t scurrying around the floor but her mother would burry her if she ditched a class.
Ugh with that she set about trying to find a spot. Not next to Phoebe because she was being overly dramatic about saying hello to their professor. Not near the older boy (Mark) who nearly missed his seat. She wanted to be noticed, but for her cute outfits and accessories, not being loud and freaking out in class. Regardless of what ever possible rodent was scurrying across the floor. "Hello there Miss Rivers," Gabi greeted Charlie as she watched her walk in and strategically pick a seat. She always liked to pick up on those little interactions and reactions the students had to their peers - it gave a lot of insight into their personalities that they very rarely showed professors. Walking into the classroom, Holly gave the Professor a smile and a nod, her empty hand lifting to wave a bit too. ”Hi, Professor Recard.” The Scottish raised girl moved towards the back of the room and slipped into her own chair. Nothing to see here, nope. Not at all. She crossed one leg over the other and twirled her hair around her fingers. Gabi nodded at Holly in return. "Good morning, dear," she greeted her, watching as she took her seat. Class was filling up fast now! The tiny niffer toy approached the Slytherin girl, eyeing her finger in curiosity. OOOOH she have a pretty ring on there? Maybe a bracelet? Oh. No. She was just playing with her hair. Boring! Quote:

"Good morning, Professor Recard," he greeted politely, though the mention of summer caught him somewhat off guard. "My summer was… fine, thanks." That wasn't quite the right word to describe it, but nobody needed to know about the family drama that had happened over the break. "Did you have a nice summer?" he asked, hoping the question would provide a distraction.
He took a seat in his usual place toward the middle of the room and began to neatly arrange his supplies in front of him. Suddenly he saw something small and furry out of the corner of his eye, but he didn't get a good look at it. Gah! What was that thing? More importantly, was he going to turn into a hairy creature if it touched him? "Good to hear, Mister Jones," Gabi grinned at the third year as he asked about her summer. "It was very relaxing. Not nearly long enough, as usual," she added with a small smirk. Wasn't that how everyone felt? Quote:

It was just one of those things you had to do when you were an adult, he guessed.
But she did make one mistake and it was that she opened the windows on such a nice day. Of course Morgan took a seat neat one of those windows and directed his attention outside. What a crime it was to have to be in class when it was this nice out! All the things they could do... "Professor, we should have class outside!" he very helpfully suggested from his seat. "Y'know, before the weather gets bad.." Which he was sure would be very soon. And certainly there were many relevant topics that they could study outside? Not that being outside would distract the Gryffindor any further... nope, not him.
And he was just about to get his things out to be prepared for class, when something else caught his eye. "What is that?" he asked out loud to no one as his eyes tried to follow the scurrying thing on the floor. Scurry over here so he could grab it. Gabi nodded and gave a little sigh. "I agree Mister McCarthy. However I didn't have time to adjust my lesson plan for the good weather - perhaps sometime soon," she assured him. The girl stared, unable to figure what had caused the Slytherin to make the noise. She gave Professor Recard a look, before smiling awkwardly as a greeting. Surely, she knew what was going on.
Merlin, it was bright in the classroom too, wasn’t it?
Still trying to understand what had happened, she made her way over to the seat near Nina. “Are you okay?” Missa asked as she settled down in her seat. What perfect timing. "Hello Prefect Renaldi," Gabi smiled at her in greeting, appreciative that Missa was concerned about Nina's well-being. The toy niffler was becoming increasingly frustrated that it hadn't found anything shiny yet! Maybe this newcomer had something...and thankfully she seemed totally unaware that it was approaching. It hurried to her bag and immediately began to play with the clasp for a few moments before becoming frustrated and hurrying away. Quote:

It was when she was sitting that she felt something brush her leg causing her to feel a little jump in her chest, but not enough to make her show it outwardly. Her blue eyes immediately looking down to see what it was, but whatever seemed to be there was no longer there.
..... "Hello there Miss Asztalos!" Gabi smiled at Faye as she entered, smirking a little as she watched the niffler run up to her...and then hurry away as soon as it came. Quote:

She noticed it was very bright in the classroom so she shaded her eyes with her hand. Now she could actually see the classroom from her seat. She pulled out book and quill as she waited for the class to start. "Good morning Miss Anderson," Gabi replied with a nod to the young Ravenclaw as she walked in and took her seat. She glanced up at the clock for a moment and realized it was getting close to the start of class. The last few stragglers better get here quick! Quote:

Lovely day, isn’t it?” and took a seat in the classroom, not really paying attention to who he was around.
What did capture his attention though was a small, scuttering little creature which was seemed to be scuttling around the classroom, in and out of people’s legs. Not at all what he had expected for a HoM lesson but not at all unwelcome. "It IS lovely, isn't it Prefect Jones?" Gabi nodded in agreement as she watched the Ravenclaw prefect take his seat. He seemed like he was in a good mood. Running at top speed from across the room, the niffler came to a halt next to the prefect's desk and immediately grabbed onto his pant leg. Did he have a shiny ring or something it could steal? It couldn't see! He had to CLIMB! The niffler climbed a little up his leg, stopping right before his knee, when he got a closer look at the boy's hands and realized he had nothing of value. Ugh. Struck down again! It ran back down his leg and hopped off before scurrying away. Quote:

Uhhhhhhhh.
Ooooooookay. That was....... loud.
It didn't take long for him to come to a sudden stop and to shoot Nina a funny look at her, uh, whatever that was. Was she okay? Something didn't seem okay. Something seemed ~ wrong ~. Now this was what was making him feel awkward so he gave her a small smile and shuffled further into the room.
Breathe. B r e a t h e. "Hello, Professor," he said, offering Recard a slightly wider smile as he went to sit on an empty seat that just so happened to be in the sunshine. Not a coincidence and not-

Uh, what was tHAT?! "Good day, Prefect Dakest," Gabi greeted him. She was still getting used to that new hairdo he was sporting - it made him look very mature, but it was still a stark contrast from last term. Quote:

Silently, he pulled out the chair beside where Jina sat and only then noticed the creature at the front of the classroom. "Great...so this will turn into a zoo," he mumbled to himself and felt his pockets for the phials from Missa and their exquisite lids there as well as a certain pocket watch that he kept on his person as well. Gabi never expected anything more than a nod from Eiji at this point, and returned his head nod with a small smile as he entered. And perhaps she wouldn't keep asking if some students hadn't insisted on remaining quiet and not engaging in conversation with her? Hmm?
Once everyone was settled in, Gabi raised her wand and slammed the door shut. That was the sign that class had officially started, and she wanted everyone's attention on her. "Good morning everyone! I hope you're all having a good morning - it really is a lovely day outside. Shame we have to spend it in here," she chuckled a little. If she had had time to rework her lesson plans she might have tried to do an outdoor lesson, but it was imperitive that she went over the subject of this lesson earlier in the term. "As you all may have noticed - we have a little visitor in our lesson today," Gabi grinned as the niffler ran up to her, scurried up the leg of the desk, and plopped itself next to her inkwell before the enchantment wore off, turning it into a normal plushie once again. "In truth, nifflers don't have TOO much of role in our lesson today. However, I thought it would be a fun segway into the main topic of our lesson - Newt Scamander," she explained. They all knew that Newt had notoriously kept nifflers as pets, yes? Perhaps Jacob - yes, that was the niffler's name - would make an appearance later, if they all behaved themselves and put forth their best effort in class. "Newt Scamander had a very long, illustrious career that spanned decades. However, it can't be denied that he had the biggest impact on the study of magical creatures. Before Newt came along, studying magical creatures just wasn't something wizards prioritized - creatures were often misunderstood, or wizards simply had no desire or patience to learn more about them," she explained with a small frown. While she herself wasn't big on creatures or animals of any kind, she still enjoyed them and found them fascinating to read about. It was so strange to think at some point they didn't have any interest in it at all! "Newt really helped shape our understanding of MANY species of creatures that had never really been studied before. So, let's name some of them! Pick a creature that Newt studied excessively, and if you can, elaborate a bit more about HOW he really helped us discover more about them," Gabi posed the question to them and then stood up, beginning her usual pacing of the room as she waited to call on them. OOC: Hey everyone! I hope you had fun with the goofy niffler running around to start off class! Onto the main event - we're learning all about Newt today! You'll have at LEAST 24 hours (likely more like 36-40ish because let's be honest I'm probably gonna be exhausted after work tomorrow) to answer the question before we move on.
