Staring into the flames had only been a mild means of passing the time while he waited for the students to arrive but it had quickly drawn him in. Soon the man was lost in thought, regaling himself with memories of the summer just past, and entertaining thoughts of what the year might hold. This process quickly came to an end when he heard the first students begin to arrive.
Malachi tore his gaze away, settling instead on his lions. His brow shot up when he got a look at the lot of them. The man inclined his head in greeting to those who had spoken. "My Saturday's been splendid, actually." But. "Who died?" Why were they looking like they were expecting the worse? The notice barely had three sentences. They could leave the catastrophizing to him. It was his job to assume the sky was falling.
Speaking of...."Grantham, what are you on about?" It had been three days back. What could she possibly have already done? Actually, he was very interested in that answer now.

"I had some free time this afternoon and thought it was as good a time as any to drop by. As you no doubt would've noticed, there was no announcement on the new head of Gryffindor. That's because I wanted to come and let you know myself. I'll be the interim Head of House until someone else steps in.
