From a young age, it was clear that Simran would do well in the sciences. She asked questions incessantly, read books with an appetite to rival the sweet tooth she inherited from her Indian ancestors. Only Jaleebi and Gulab Jamun would succeed in breaking her obsessive acquisition of knowledge when something caught her fancy, something that thrilled both her parents to no end. Hogwarts, her parents reasoned, would be good for her.

And so she went, but when her parents asked how her lessons were going, and if she was still the top of her science lessons, they were quickly horrified. All the subjects that she had been prepared for had suddenly been replaced with new, foreign subjects. Astronomy quickly became her favourite, although at first because it was the closest thing she had to her previous school subjects.

Despite this, she settled in quickly and adapted well to her new school environment. Even then, she craved the rigour of her previous school. It was decided eventually, between her parents and the then-headmaster of Hogwarts that she would learn the Muggle syllabi in lieu of electives beginning her third year, and graduate Hogwarts with both A-levels and NEWTs.
