She didn't know how to hang out with her friend and NOT get into trouble, and after the Headmaster's speech, she was determined to DO BETTER. And how could she do better with Claudine? How could they move past the disaster in the Forest, which Claudine had talked her into doing in the first place?!

But besides buy three cruppies, Bernie also had say goodbye to Claudine on her list.

So she nodded simply when her friend came to the door, and looked back down at her notebook as she tried to think of what to say. What to say. What to say.... did.... Claudine get a rat?! When had that happened?
