Obviously, if it HAD been real, Bernie would have jammed it on her head and began asking it some VERY important questions, most of which would have been about the hat's original owner.
So anyway, they weren't talking about THE Gryffindor today, but still a worthy one. Bernie eyed the hat once more and tried to think about how it had related to Neville Longbottom. She knew the toad and the mimblewhatnot minutaetonia plant, but the hat? "Was he supposed to be a Hufflepuff or something, but he got into Gryffindor?" she asked her group slash the professor, connecting the hat to the scarf in this instance. "I was almost in Hufflepuff m'self. I see the appeal."
As it turned out, if she'd cared more about cupcakes and less about blowing things up, Bernie would have been in a lot less trouble this year. It wasn't exactly what she had been going for, but Gabi was thrilled that Bernadette was thinking outside the box and thinking critically. "Very good answer! It is true that during his first few years, many were skeptical as to why Neville was sorted in to Gryffindor when he didn't seem to be very brave. However, he was a classic example of not judging a book by its cover - just because he wasn't brave in the classical sense, didn't mean he didn't show bravery in other ways," she explained. Like when he had stood up to Harry and his friends before they left to find the Philosopher's Stone. Quote:

So as the conversation had continued right after her answer, she had already started to think about how each and every item related to Neville Longbottom.
Isla looked at the plant before her then raised her hand. "Well, the Mimbulus Mimbletonia is probably because he loved Herbology and used to be a Herbology professor," she said. That one was easy enough. She was sure there was probably way more to that than she knew, but she wasn't exactly an expert on Neville Longbottom. She could see the bits and pieces in his life on each of the tables. The toad, however, was a question mark for her. She had no idea what the connection between Neville Longbottom and toads could be. "Excellent job, Miss Bellchant," the professor smiled at her. "Neville LOVED plants, and always did extremely well in Herbology. It's no surprise that he eventually went on to become a Herbology professor here, and he was very well liked by his students," she added as an extra fun fact. Quote:

"Didn't the hat give Neville the sword of Gryffindor, because it thought he needed it?" He wasn't sure if that was the reason or not but he had read about that somewhere he was sure of it. Gabi BEAMED at the Gryffindor as he had hit the nail on the head with his answer. "Good job Mister Simpson!" she told him. "That was the reason I picked the sorting hat - however, as others have stated, it could also mean a lot of different things. But yes, the hat DID give him the sword of Gryffindor in his time of need - confirming that he was, indeed, a true Gryffindor deep down," she elaborated. Honestly, one of her favorite stories about Neville. Quote:

She would do just that, and in the meanwhile, think about her next response which would be about the Remembrall at this time around. He didn’t need much time to do so; her hand went up a very short while later to await her turn. “Neville had a very bad memory,’’ the second year supplied. “It was hoped that the Remembrall would remind him that he had forgotten something… but Remembralls don’t outright tell anyone what they've forgotten.’’ Someone needed to invent an updated version of Remembralls. Claudine earned a nod of approval from Gabi as she listened to her answer. "Very good Miss Blaze! Remembralls are, in theory, a good idea - however, if you're very forgetful and there are many things you could have forgotten, they're not the most useful invention," she admitted with a small shrug. Gabi wasn't forgetful at all and didn't need one, obviously, but she couldn't imagine how frustrating it would be to know you had forgotten SOMETHING but not know WHAT it was... Quote:

Finally, Naya raised her hand. “Neville Longbottom had a pet toad.” Yep. She went with the obvious answer. Was there more to add? “I think his name was Trevor.” Naya, queen of the random details. There had to be more that she could say, but right now, she was drawing a blank. The end. Answer done. Gabriela smiled at Naya, pleased that she was at least giving it a shot - even if she was stating the obvious. That was ok, the toad was a hard one to think critically about! "Very good," she said with a nod.
She paused for a moment and waved her wand so that all the answers they'd given appeared on the board behind her, so the rest of the class could add to their notes while they waited to be called on. Quote: TOAD:
-Neville's pet toad, Trevor, that he had during school HAT:
-Neville's sorting was questioned by himself and his peers when he first arrived at Hogwarts
-The sorting hat presented Neville with the sword of Gryffindor during the Battle of Hogwarts MIMBULUS MIMBLETONIA:
-Represents his love for plants, and his eventual career as a Herbology professor SCARF: REMEMBRALL:
-He had a notoriously bad memory in his early years
"Great job so far everyone! Let's keep going...there's still plenty we can deduce about Neville's life from these objects," she told them all, her eyes lingering just a moment on the scarf table, who had remained silent during the activity. Did they have anything to contribute? OOC: Thanks for participating so far, guys! You still have about 24 hours to complete this activity! Remember you can still earn full points even if you didn't post your character guessing the subject of the lesson (catch up wouldn't make sense at this point as we've already moved on and revealed it to the students) and even if your answer has been posted by another member of your group, you can still have your character contributing the same idea (obviously phrased differently and in your own words) because I know some of these can be kind of hard!
As always feel free to nudge me if you need me!
