Maybe it was a touchy subject. For all Cole knew maybe Claudine was allergic or someone in her family was or there was a totally different reason all together. After giving the brown rat a last affectionate scratch he gently lifted it off his shoulder and over to sit on Claudine's right shoulder. "Hmm names, have to come to you like how i named my rat Harry. But some suggestions maybe Sam or Ron or if it's a girl I haven't checked then maybe Sally?" Cole was lousy with names. Claudine had to figure it out herself.
Wonderful it was hard not to feel the sudden chill that had come into Claudine's tone. Pretending that he hadn't seen the head jerk, arched brow or questioning eyes he continued on. "So you never hug or touch anyone? Not even someone you like? Not even a friend or a boyfriend?"
Claudine was silent for a moment, her gaze focused on Christopher who’s eyelids had drooped now. Obviously he was falling asleep. The sight melted her heart but then she was reminding herself that this was just a doll in her arms and that she would be handing it back to Schmoe in a short time. Also, she was thinking how much about herself she should reveal to Cole. Claudine rarely put much about herself out there; she was not an open book. But Cole could be trusted (not that she would ever tell him that). The second year gently nudged her new pet with her cheek. It did seem to like her so that was a good start. “I like Sammy,’’ she admitted. “I’ll keep that at the top of the list.” For she understood that names had to come to the owner of the pet.
Now her mind was back on the unanswered questions. Did Cole need reassurance that she didn’t have an issue with him? Half of Claudine wanted to leave him in the dark, the other half wanted to clear things up. “I like to be alone. I hate it when anyone invades my space.’’ Did he ever notice that she preferred to work alone during lessons and was always reluctant to team up? Probably not. He was always too busy in conversation with Naya. Claudine suddenly felt annoyed by that fact and she didn’t quite know why. “I try not to,’’ she told Cole stiffly, in fact, it was a colder tone because the whole realisation about Naya still annoyed her. “It might have something to do with my introverted nature.’’ This was something she never thought much about. “I don’t think I’m girlfriend material, and I don’t think I want a boyfriend.” |
