Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll Okay, so far so good! Heath got his lavender stalk braid in the cauldron just in the nick of time. Now if he could just keep doing what he was doing, he might make it to the end without slipping up. He looked up from this potion at the sound of Professor Noble’s voice, hanging on to the professor’s every word as he jotted down the next set of instructions. Oh, so that’s why they needed a whole sopophorous bean… good to know.
Heath counted out three sprigs of valerian and added them to his cauldron. Then he carefully turned up the heat, keeping a watchful eye on his potion for the first signs of bubbles. The longer it took, the more nervous he got. What if he did something wrong? What if he turned the temperature too high? Or not high enough? Just when he was really starting to panic, he saw a few bubbles form and begin to rise to the top. As soon as he saw the bubbles, he dropped the sopophorous bean into the cauldron and watched as the potion changed color to a greenish-blue shade. That looked turquoise to him! One, two, three, four, five, six, seven… Seven times Heath stirred the potion clockwise, and when he looked again, it had turned pale bluish-gray. Whew, he did it! After completing the seventh stir, he turned off the burner and set his timer for exactly three minutes. After the timer went off came the hard part: the wand movement. Wandwork was not Heath’s strong suit at all! HIs movements tended more toward nervous and jittery than the smooth and calm that the potion required. Oh, no! What if he did it wrong? He didn’t want to have to start over, especially when he was so close to finishing!
Heath took a deep breath, imagining himself as a Jedi using the Force. It may be weird, but it was the only way he could calm down enough to do the wand movement properly. Keeping his wrist flat, he swept his wand over the top of the cauldron. Was that it? Was he done now? He looked up, awaiting further instructions.
