*catching up* Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent For the most part, Gunnar usually kept quiet and to himself during Potions class. He found it necessary to keep his focus, especially as the subject demanded precision. And today really was no different as he found this type of soothing solution to be something potentially useful. He also briefly wondered if his parents put this potion to use themselves, but he'd have a different use for it.
Once he was finished with his notes and made certain that his cauldron was clean, Gunnar got to work, starting with measuring out the proper amount of flobberworm mucous and dumping into his cauldron set on a low flame. And then the Head Boy set about retrieving the rest of the instructed ingredients.
Three heads of lavender flowers with five inches of stalk and four large chamomile leaves - that was easy enough, and so was the chopping of the leaves before they were added, but the braiding of said stalks, not so much. He half wished he'd paid closer attention to his sister's hair-braiding as he was sure she was having no trouble with this step, while his braids were awkward and messy at best, even following Professor Noble's demonstration. But at least he hadn't crushed any flower heads, so it was a win as far as he was concerned.
Once he had them done and tied together, the Slytherin jotted down a few more notes in his potions journal while he waited for the mixture to simmer. At the five minute mark, he dropped the bundle in and gave the whole potion two clockwise stirs before looking up for the next set of steps.
It was a good thing that he was able to focus as some of the younger students were being awfully distracting today. But as Noble addressed the entire class again, Gunnar continued with his notes first to make sure he wasn't missing anything as sometimes the last steps were a bit trickier with making sure the proper color change occurred.
He added the Valerian sprigs, then slowly turned up the heat, watching the the liquid for any bubbles appearing. It took a moment, but once he saw the first few form and begin to rise to the top, he dropped in the sopophorous bean. The potion did turn a lovely shade of turquoise blue at that point, but he could only hope that the final change would still occur as he began to briskly stir in the same way he saw Noble.
