Looking at Mila she wondered what color the baby would look good in, she figured all, but what color would she want to see her in. Since both Ewan and she were Ravenclaw, maybe a cute blue one would look nice. Looking at the fabric she pictured the hat and the color just like she wanted. She would start with something easy and plain just for practice, but then she had other thoughts once she did it a few times. "Tectum Caput" She said very clearly and with the correct movement. The fabric started to move and the color that she had in mind started to show. She looked at the hat and then at the little one. "I think I made it too small." The doll wasn't asleep, but she was being good for now so Chloe took the hat to try on.
Seeing that it was too small she reversed the spell to try again.
Carwyn was once again doing his rounds, mostly silent as he walked between the students unless they looked like they needed his input. He smiled as he saw that Chloe had managed to make a hat of her own. He congratulated her, even as she tried again. ”That's okay, practice makes perfect. Just try again, aiming for a little bigger and then you can move on to the second hat.” No need to make them perfect, especially when premature babies could be tiny. Someone would get the use of the hats they created. SPOILER!!: Minjae Quote:

He looked up for a moment after hearing the compliment, gave a tiny smile before he looked at the fabric that was placed on his desk.
He watched the demonstration carefully as the professor transfigured the fabric in to a cream colored hat. It was not the color he would personally choose for a hat though. Telling himself that he could do this, the Hufflepuff took in the shape of the dolls head and while he tried to envision how big the hat was supposed to be, Minjae picked his wand back up and pointed it at the fabric.
Since his favorite color was teal, the Hufflepuff decided to go with that color. If this worked out, he could try and make a bigger hat later on and they would have matching hats! He circled his wand clockwise and said "Tectum Caput" he said, trying to focus with all of his might to transfigure the fabric.
Nothing happened. He wasn't surprised either though. He had never been able to successfully transfigure anything at the first try."Tectum Caput" nothing again. He tried and tried again but apart from the fabric changing color once and it not even being the color had wanted, Minjae placed his wand back on the table.
What was he doing wrong? Was it his focus? Or did he not visualize correctly? Maybe there was something wrong with his wand? He picked it up and began to look it over. Apart from a few scratches it looked fine to him. He pointed at the fabric, circled clockwise and said the incantation.
This time, something had happened but not what he had wanted. There was a flash of bright light, Minjae shielded his eyes and when it went out he let out a panicked yell as he slid off the chair sideways and on to the ground. He had successfully vanished not one but two! of his chair legs~
He was strangely proud of that...
He had just finished talking to Chloe when he heard a clatter behind him. Twisting on his heel, he found Minjae on the floor, chair on its side with ...…. Two?????? …… legs missing??? He stood for a split second, before glaring at anyone who was laughing. ”Everyone, concentrate on your work.” He said to the room as a whole before moving over to Minjae. ”Are you okay, Minjae?” He crouched down beside him, moving the broken chair so that he wouldn’t be hindered when moving to stand up. ”What happened?” He asked even as he tapped the chair with his wand and corrected its leg-issue. There… That was better, but how that even happened, Carwyn wouldn’t know unless he listened to the Hufflepuff so he stopped splitting his attention and paid attention to Minjae. Hopefully...
Isla didn't even know what color hat she'd like Ellie to have, but she kind of liked the cream colored hat the professor made. It looked like it would match any other color Ellie wore, whereas something like pink probably wouldn't. So cream it would be, and that was exactly what Isla pictured. Would it possible to make a hat with a pretty little flower or something? Maybe she'd try that later or something.
She stood before her fabric and pictured the same cream color the professor had created. "Tectum Caput!" she called out. She made a medium-sized clockwise circle around the fabric then tapped it. When all was said and done, she was super proud of the fact that she'd created a hat, but it was waaaaay too big for Ellie's head. That should be an easy fix, though. At least she'd made the hat! For the second time, Isla pictured a cream colored hat, but this time, she spared a glance toward Ellie and really got a good feel for the size of her baby's head. Then she turned back to the fabric and gave it her undivided attention. "Tectum Caput!" she called out. She moved her wand into a single, clockwise circle and then tapped forward.
There was a scuffle of fabric as the spell was attempting to work its magic. A few seconds later, another hat lie before her. It looked the same as the one before, but there was only one way to tell if it fit Ellie. She picked up the hat and placed it on her baby's head. A few adjustments later, and it was a perfect fit!
Awesome! Now she could maybe spend some time making hats for the other babies, too!
As he stood back up from talking to Minjae, righting the chair he smiled as he noticed Isla had a hat on her desk. [b]”Very nice, Isla. I like your hat.”[/color] He grinned at her a little, noting that it was the same neutral colour as his own had been. ”You still have time to create the next one.” He informed her patiently. Plenty of time. He’d have appreciated the fact her second hat had been a better fit than the first if he had seen her second try, but he hadn’t seen the change from the first hat to the second. The second looked good though! SPOILER!!: Claudine Quote:

It was encouraging to be recognised for trying your best. Now she was looking at the different patterns of fabric on her desk. It was time to get started.
The girl peeked at the sleeping Christopher, at his head, to be exact. It wasn’t a big head, it wasn’t a small one. Then again, what did she know about the usual sizes of babies’ heads? Her artistic mind was portraying a light purple beanie with horizontal white stripes on it. “Tec-’’
She turned her head so fast that she cricked her neck. There was Minjae on the ground with two of his chair legs missing. Claudine stifled a laugh. It was a far way, vanishing chair legs instead of creating baby hats. “Tectum Caput.” The hat was pictured as clearly as could be and she made the clockwise circle then touched the tip of her wand to the first piece of cloth. She was unsurprised to find nothing happened; this seemed to be a norm with her spellwork. But she was trying again by repeating the steps. Her second attempt was a little better. At least the fabric turned purple. “Reverte.’’ “Tectum Caput.” The appropriate movement was done and would you know it? There was a hat sitting on her desk exactly as she had pictured.
Claudine was so very pleased with herself. Quote:

She’d have to keep an eye on it so that it didn’t become a bother to Christopher.
Now another fabric piece was set before her. This time, the girl envisioned a bubblegum pink hat with red roses sewn onto it at intervals. “Tectum Caput.” The usual was done: clockwise circle then touched the tip of her wand to the fabric. The most important element was also done: a very clear picture of what she wanted the hat to look like was kept in mind.
Unfortunately, not a thing happened. But was Claudine deterred? Not in the slightest. She would just keep trying. And trying.
And trying.
Until… “Tectum Caput.” Success.
Colour this little Snakette proud.
His ”Everyone, concentrate on your work.” had included Claudine, and a few others who had either stifled a laugh or had laughed out right - but when he moved in her direction he was proud to see that there was a purple baby hat sitting on her desk. ”Good work, Claudine.” He was proud to see that she had focused on the task at hand. He watched her place it on her sleeping baby, before he quietly watched her try and retry to make her second hat - but when it appeared on the desk instead of the square of fabric… well, he chuckled softly. ”That’s a cute design.” He smiled at her before he moved on. Oh yes, he knew she was more artistic than he was and if anyone was going to manage a designed hat, she would. He remembered her Halloween sketches afterall. SPOILER!!: Bernadette Quote:

Bernie aimed it at Finneas' head to see if it would even fit him, and then put the square back on the desk.
"Tec-toom KAAA-pooot," Bernie said, moving her wand in a quick clockwise circle and then tapping the fabric square. Aww, cute! It worked! She beamed at the red hat she had, and wondered if she should try to wake Finneas up by attempting to jam it on his head. It DID look a little small still... maybe she should try another one.
Bernie picked up another bit of fabric; this one was blue and purple. "TEC-toom KAA-poot!" she cast again, with the swirl of her wand. YAY! Another hat, this one slightly bigger. She really really REALLY wanted Finneas to wear one of these hats...
Yes, the Professor heard your laughing Bernadette - his ”Everyone, concentrate on your work.” - was said to you as well. However, by the time he had made his way around the classroom to see her work both hats were sitting on her desk in front of her and he smiled at both the red hat and the second blue & purple hat. ”Good work, Bernadette. I especially like the blue and purple one.” He nodded before moving on. SPOILER!!: Heath Quote:
Originally Posted by MadMadamMalfoy Heath thought he was finally getting the hand of saying the spell, but after hearing the professor’s feedback, he wasn’t so sure anymore. Apparently he needed to sound more confident. Unfortunately, confidence was the last thing he felt right now, so he did the thing he always did when he needed to project an emotion he didn’t feel: try to act the part. Concentrating on a time when he felt truly confident, he said with as much force as he could muster, “TEC-toom kap-OOT!” There… Was that better? He hoped it was, as they were moving on to something else.
Heath kept his eyes on Professor Eris throughout the spell demonstration, hanging on to the man’s every word. He looked at Leia, wondering what kind of hat he should make her. Ooh, he had it! He’d make her an ewok hat so she could match her favorite toy! For a moment, he considered removing the hat she was already wearing to use as a size guide, but he decided against it. He didn’t want Leia to start crying and distract everyone! He had just raised his wand to try casting the spell when a yell caused his dark head to turn in the direction of the sound, and he saw an older Hufflepuff (Minjae) on the ground. Unlike some of the other students, Heath didn’t find anything funny about that. He knew how humiliating it was to be laughed at, and besides, he wasn’t very good at transfiguration himself, so who was he to judge? He shot the other boy a quick look of sympathy before turning back to his work, or he would’ve except…
Now Leia was awake. Great… so much for not distracting everyone! Stifling a frustrated sigh, Heath picked up the now wailing doll. Sorry! Sorry, everybody! He thought, casting an apologetic look around the room as he gently rocked the fussy baby in his arms until her cries stopped. If there was a bright side to having Leia start crying in the middle of class, it was that it gave Heath the chance to take off her hat as he returned her to her basket. He traced the opening of the hat with his wand a couple of times to get a feel for the size before turning his attention to the first fabric square on his desk. It was an ugly beige color with - he didn’t even want to know what kind of stain was on it! Visualizing an orange hat with two rounded brown ears attached to the top on each side, he made a clockwise circle with his wand in what he hoped was the same size as Leia’s head and touched the material with the tip. “TEC-toom kap-OOT,” he enunciated.
Before his eyes, the fabric square was gone; in its place was an orange hat with little brown ears, exactly like he’d imagined. Heath blinked in surprise, picking up the hat just to make sure it was really there. Did he really just get a spell right on the first try? That had never happened to him before! Now to see if it fit… “Leia, look what I’ve got for you,” he whispered, gently placing the new hat atop her head. It was a little big, but not so much so as to be unuseable. He was going to call that a success, and so, it seemed, was Leia! No sooner than he put the hat on her that she started making happy baby sounds. Heath smiled. “See? Now you look just like Mr. Ewok!”
One hat down, but he still had one more to go. Heath reluctantly turned his attention back to the stack of fabric squares on his desk. Now what kind of hat should he make for the hospital? His first thought was to make a green hat with Yoda ears, but then he remembered most people at St. Mungo’s wouldn’t know who Yoda was. Maybe he was on to something though… he couldn’t do a Star Wars creature hat, but what about a magical creature? Suddenly an idea came to him: a green hat with little leaves at the top like a bowtruckle’s. Concentrating on his vision, Heath made the wand movement and said, “Tectum Caput!” And… nothing happened. Ugh, he should’ve guessed his earlier success was only beginner’s luck!
He tried again; this time the fabric took the shape of a baby hat, but its original pattern (huge pink polka dots on a neon yellow background) remained. Maybe if he tried a different piece of fabric? Heath picked up another piece of fabric to try again; the square turned green this time, but it kept its shape. What was he doing wrong? He’d already done the spell once, so why couldn’t he do it again? Was it his pronunciation? His wand movement? No, he was doing everything exactly as he’d done it the first time, except… His first design was inspired by Star Wars, something he knew inside and out, so he knew he could visualize it. Maybe the change in design changed his confidence?
Heath decided to try a different design, but what? He thought for a minute. What about a cat, a gray one with black and white stripes like Rey (his cat, not the Star Wars character)? That should be easier to envision than a creature he’d only ever seen in books! Picturing a gray striped hat with cat ears clearly in his mind, Heath made the clockwise circle with his wand and touched the fabric one more time. “Tectum Caput!” He did it, finally!
By the time he made his way to Heath, his baby was already wearing a new hat - matching the plushie he had seen Heath handing over earlier. If he wasn’t already a family man missing his own family, seeing the baby doll with such a cute new hat on definitely would have made him miss his great-grandkids. Looking at the desk, Carwyn chuckled slightly as he saw a few hats on Heath’s desk, as well as a newly created grey hat with cat ears. ”Very cute, Heath.” Even if the young man had obviously not been happy with the second and third hats, they were suitable for donating - and they looked cute even if they hadn’t been what the man had been aiming for. ”Well done everyone!” Carwyn called out as he made his way back to his desk, where the rest of the fabric squares were in a neat pile beside him. On the other side of the desk, there was an empty wicker basket. “Now, this spell can be used to transfigure various hats for your babies - sun hats to protect them from the sun or wooly hats to protect them from the chill. Truly, it can be changed depending on the season or even the weather outside… afterall, we can have all four seasons in a single day up here.” In Scotland. Nothing was ever constant, and the weather liked to trick you into the wrong type of clothing. Nice in the morning? It’ll rain after lucnh. Raining in the morning? It’ll be scorching by dinner time. The weather was a bizarre thing. ”Now we have ten minutes left, so I want to see how many baby hats you can come up with. Be adventurous with your styles, your colours and with the personal flair you put on your transfigurations. Remember that this is one of the most creatively freeing aspects of transfiguring your clothes; the patterns and designs will only be limited by what you can conjure. He looked them over with a nod. ”Remember, you will be keeping one hat for your baby doll, and the rest can be put into this basket and they will be donated to St Mungo’s.” He grinned, yes, didn’t it feel good to help tiny babies? ”You likely have some extra fabric in front of you, but there is spare material on my desk.” He stood up and made a motion for them all to get back to work. ”Try to see how many you can transfigure in the next ten minutes.” OOC: We’re coming up to the end now! Just the mini activity to go now. Have fun creating as many hats as you think your characters would manage, and they will all be IC passed on to St Mungo’s by Carwyn <3
Thank you for coming! I’ll be looking in over the next day or so but the thread will be closing on Monday night at some point between 9pm and 11pm GMT.
