Bernie didn't hear, or see, the Headmaster drop his wand, so she was assuming that one had missed him... truth be told, she wasn't sure where he was until she heard--- and saw, and felt, the bombarda destroy her shield. Darnit, he was still mad.
Muttering a few choice words, Bernie took a risk in scuttling closer toward where the headmaster's spell had come, wondering if he was doing the same sneaky thing??? She bravely cast another spell his way: "Muffliato!" So even if it didn't quite hit him, it would at least make the environment noisy so she could continue sneaking around? Right??
In the meanwhile... Bernie had been dying to try her next spell out, and thought the smoky environment would make a fun place for the Headmaster to stumble across a snake. "Serpensortia," she cast, then took off in the opposite direction from where the snake popped out and started slithering.
