Bernie wasn't even going to TURN AROUND to give these GROWN MEN the satisfaction of watching her struggle. She had far too much pride for that. Instead, she tugged and tugged and tugged on the boat's rope, managing to create a small ripple in the grit on the shore and a large rope burn on her hand. Together, this effort certainly made it LOOK like the boat had shifted a whole quarter of an inch toward the shore.
That was it. If she couldn't get the boats to move, SHE would move. Bernie scrambled up the rope holding the boat in place and flipped down inside the boat, lying flat on her face in a combination of humiliation and frustration.
Well, at least they couldn't see her struggling from here. In fact, they couldn't see her at all.
