He definitely would have done that had it not been for his extremely hard work to get his parents signature on the field trip permission slip. It had taken him over a week and a lot of begging for them to sign it so he didn't want his work to be in vain.
Not having breaking a sweat at all as he entered the observatory, Minjae opened up his school bag and rummaged inside of it to take out his permission slip. "Hey Professor" He greeted. "Do i give this now or later?" he waved the piece of paper a little "Also, isn't that bag heavy?" Simran had, truth be told, begun to wonder if this field trip was a good idea, once 7:15 hit and she didn't see anyone walking through the door. Was it too early? Had she been to eager, too hasty? To excited to show them the things she was planning to show them today?
Thankfully, Minjae Yoon walked in through the door just before she could really start contemplating cancelling the trip and apologising to the students at Addis Ababa who'd put in all the work to host them. "Good morning, Mister Yoon," she smiled, holding her hand out for his permission slip. "I'll take it now, thank you, dear."

Heading inside he stifled a yawn as he greeted Professor Sandhu with a warm smile. "Good morning professor Sandhu!" Setting his backpack down, he rummaged around a little until he finally found his signed permission slip. Cole held it in hand as the only other boy there whom he remembered seeing on the train asked the same question he had on mind. He did though shoot the boy a small smile and a greeting. "Hello! I'm Cole. You're new right?" Truthfully, Cole, Simran didn't want to be awake at this time either. Think about it. How often did she even show up to breakfast? If she was there, it was a sign that she hadn't yet gone to sleep -- not that she'd woken up for the occasion. She functioned on a very different circadian rhythm than most of their professors -- she had to, when her lessons started after dinner and ended well past midnight. "Good morning, dear," she nodded, hand outstretched for his permission slip. Hand it over, kid. "Glad to see that you'll be joining us today." SPOILER!!: Sunflower Quote:

Great.
Now she’s be known as the overachiever. Thanks mom. She did not want that at all. She wanted to draw as little of attention to herself as possible the first few weeks. Yet here she was going on a field trip in the extra wee hours of the morning. Taking a deep breath she stepped further into the room, “Professor.” she nodded. Because she wouldn’t lie and say it was a good morning when she’d rather be in bed. She stepped further into the room unsure of where to go or who to stand by. A first year! Simran always adored the little creatures -- the only group she had a lesson with so far, and it hadn't even been much of a lesson. Simran certainly didn't consider it one. They needed the introduction, though. The poor things woudln't understand anything from this field trip otherwise, and that was the opposite of what we were trying to achieve here. Entering the room, she noticed the professor sitting at her desk. “Good Morning Professor. I’m Naya and I’m really looking forward to this field trip.” Surveying the rest of the classroom, she said, “Hello people.” “Hey Cole, she added, after spotting her fellow Gryffindor. Naya found an empty seat and sat down before pulling her permission slip out of her backpack. Fortunately she had a few minutes to get herself prepared before it would be time to leave. Simran was about to greet the next girl to walk through the door when she introduced herself. To a professor who had been teaching here for two full terms now, and who had taught her last year. She knew the student-to-professor ratio here was small, yes? Or was she forgettable?

"I've ...been here for three years?' he said slowly as he looked at the Gryffindor in slight concern. "Did you and Ewan hit your heads this summer or something?" He asked as he turned to the Professor. "Am i that forgettable, Professor?!" Simran couldn't help but laugh at the Yoon boy's distress, especially so soon after her own problem of the same sort. For someone who was raised in a muggle community, this could be a bit of a bore BUT it will most definitely make things exciting and fun because it's going to be outside of Scotland. It'll be in a place he'd never been to before, and that's what makes it SUPER EXCITING.
And so, after quickly stuffing his face with breakfast, he again dashed towards the tower to assemble with his classmates hoping that his friends would be there already. It was going to be an awesome morning, he could tell! "Great morning to you, professor!" he said in his usual bright disposition and made a beeline for her, and opened his backpack to retrieve his Permission Slip. Should the Professor take notice, Noah was quite prepared for the trip (all thanks to his mum, of course). In it was an extra shirt, a water bottle, a packet or two of trail mix, a waterproof jacket, and a foldable umbrella. He'd much prefer it if he didn't bring any of those except for his wand, but he will hear from his dad too if he didn't. Besides, he was told that "mummies know best". Unfolding the piece of parchment, Noah did a quick check, making sure that it was actually signed, and then placed it on top of the last permission slip that was already on the professor's table.
He too noticed the bag that was with their teacher but refrained from asking what was inside. He got the hunch anyway that it was a bunch of portkeys for them to get to the Observatory. Instead, he gave the professor another grin and then found himself a place among the crowd that was already forming inside the classroom. Catherine, Cece, Morgan...or Mark was nowhere to be found yet but soon enough they'll turn up. They wouldn't miss this trip, right? But hey, look! Charlie's here!
Anyway, Noah went on to socialize by mingling with the older kids. He caught an older girl introducing herself, and so he took the liberty to do the same. "Hey guys! Hi, Jina! Nice to meet ya. I'm Noah, by the way." he said giving everyone a salute in greeting. "Has anyone been to Ethiopia?" he asked them randomly and then realized that Charlie was over in one corner. "Charlie! Charlie. Over here!" You know what? He'd never understand shy kids. Ever. Text Cut: Permission Slip! ASTRONOMY FIELD TRIP

I hereby absolve the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry of any unfortunate effects that arise from my own refusal to employ common sense and follow the instructions I am given. Signature: Signature of Parent (Father/ Mother)/Legal Guardian: Ah, a cheerful one! It was always so lovely to see young people acting full of like, and being cheerful in the mornings. Merlin knew she was rarely so spirited before the bottom of her first coffee mug of the day, and that was at about twelve noon, most days. "And to you, Master Mordaunt," she said, taking the permission slip only seconds before the kid ran off to socialise.
Well, she couldn't fault him for that. SPOILER!!: Hey Ju Quote:

The first year wouldn't have been able to be the first one there even if she wanted to, however. She waited for a few other students to start making their way up to where they were supposed to go, and followed them from a distance.
She arrived at the observatory behind a few others and stood at the far back, but in an angle where she could still see the professor. She wanted to stand closer to the woman so she wouldn't miss whatever means they were using to travel - she assumed a portkey, or several, given the number of students - but there was no way she would get any closer to strangers anyone until either her best friend or brother were there. They could then do the talking and socialising and... whatever else for her.
Or even any of the older kids that she knew. Those would work too, but more in a shielding kind of way. They knew more magic, so it'd be helpful to have them around too.
It was only then that she heard Noah's voice all the way at the front. She deadpanned and pursed her lips before slowly edging her way there to make sure she handed in her permission slip at the same time he did because it was safer that way and the older woman could ask him questions instead of her.
As soon as that was dealt with, she backed up again because no, thank you. She didn't want to be the first and she was most definitely not standing where the entire classroom could see her, which meant bye Noah, as he was already bringing all the attention to himself. Simran chuckled as the second Mordaunt slipped her permission slip in, seemingly trying to avoid drawing attention to herself. "Good morning to you too, dear," she winked, before turning to the next arrival. SPOILER!!: Felixr Quote:

He edged around the door into the observatory and silently joined the growing group. Kaiser had his permission slip in one of his pockets, and may or may not have been bitter about the fact that, at the age of almost-nineteen, he still had a legal guardian that needed to sign said slip. His hands were also shoved out of sight, and his entirely dishevelled appearance should have been a surprise to nobody, were they to take note of him. Which was unlikely, as he was making an effort to keep his presence largely unobtrusive. Ah, another student whose presence always brightened her lessons, although less frequently than she'd like. There was NO WAY she was going to be late for this. "Good morning, Professor," Rylee greeted Professor Sandhu with a warm smile. "Will you be needing this now or should I hold onto it?" she asked fishing out the slip of parchment from the bag she had slung over her right shoulder.
Rylee couldn't help but overhear Noah's question about anyone having been to Ethiopia. She hadn't been there but she HAD been to Uganda over the summer thanks to her cousins. It had been nothing short of simply AH-MA-ZING! "Good morning, dear," she said, and then after checking her sheet, looked back over. "Are you sure you're well enough to come?" Simran was worried. It was in her nature. She was a worrier.
Worried about Rylee, and also worried that the kid wouldn't survive the journey and that she'd go to jail for reckless endangerment of a young person. She was too old to survive jail, you know. SPOILER!!: emjay Quote:

The Head Boy chose to forgo his early morning run and grumbled about it plenty over breakfast, but by the time he headed up to the astronomy tower, he was the perfect picture of an eager student ready for class. Because it was a field trip, after all. "Good morning, Professor," he greeted Sandhu cheerfully as he placed his permission slip on her desk. He was of legal wizarding age now and did not understand why he needed a parent's signature, but his father explained to him that he was still considered his guardian until graduation. And so one Ethan McCarthy had signed the bottom of said permission slip before Gunnar left on the train on the first of September. Gunnar McCarthy entered the door and Simran's glee only grew. The head boy. She felt a little better about the coordination of this trip already, even if he was mainly there to enjoy it, the way his classmates were. He knew, though, surely, that she (and the other professors who were champeroning) would be relying on his help quite a bit. "Good morning, Master McCarthy." Greeting Professor Sandhu with a smile and a friendly “Good morning Professor” Ewan preceded to join the rest of the children, handing his signed slip in on the way, not really paying too much attention to the bag full of rather large objects. By now, he’d figured out that he would find out soon enough what was insure the bag.

He....... uh, also had something to talk to Sandhu about - a bunch of somethings - but this didn’t seem like a good time to bring it up.
Patience, Dakest. [/SPOILER] Ah, here came another prefect. And her own, for that matter. "Good morning, Master Dakest," she grinned, reaching out to take whatever it was he was handing her. The permission slip? Oh. That was only mildly disappointing.
No matter. So much to do, so much to see. She was sure that this student, if nobody else, would appreciate the order of the day.
As for his other somethings that he wanted to discuss with her. Well. Her door was always open. Okay, not always, but her office hours were posted and there was no reason he wouldn't be able to swing by. SPOILER!!: sarahlooo Quote:

"Hi Professor!" she greeted cheerfully and breathlessly as she made it inside. Then she handed her the signed permission slip and found a place in the classroom to wait. She was normally social, too, but she was just too eager to leave on the trip. Okay, sitting on this desk was starting to make her butt cramp, so Simran hopped off and did a small stretch, stopping just in time to see a Miss Louise Bones walk through the door. "Good morning, Miss Bones," she nodded, and placed the permission slip she'd been given on the stack with the others. This was looking very promising indeed. SPOILER!!: Tegz Quote:

Adidas Ababy University Observatory who? Huh. No greeting from Flynn Whitlock?
Strange. It wasn't like him not to say anything upon entering, but Simran really didn't have much time to dwell on it before Finneas Schmoe... happened. SPOILER!!: ArianaBlack Quote:

Of course he would. The question was ridiculous. The answer would always be yes. Especially because they were going all the way to Ethiopia! How very exciting (and...... actually, it was quite nerve wracking to think that they would be responsible for so many children on an entirely different continent with the possibility of so many new dangerous that they knew very little about within the context of an entirely different environment and also a UNIVERSITY, it wasn't like he was sweating about it... ahem). Anyway, aNyWaY, ANYWAY!
Finneas slipped into the classroom, awkwardly and with very little grace. He waved hello to all of his students before making way towards Simran, who looked very much in her element. How did she do that and could she provide some tips? "Hello Professor Sandhu," Finneas blinked a few times, before fishing out a slip of parchment from his trouser's pocket. "I have my permission slip." He was somewhat kidding. Somewhat serious. A lot of bit in need of the loo before they headed off. Was there time for a quick potty break or did they have to hold it? Yes. Finneas Schmoe. Head of Ravenclaw House. "Hello, Professor Schmoe," she said, voice concerned as she watched him stumble into enter her classroom, her eyes turning involuntarily to the telescope -- the most expensive thing in the area. A sudden vision of the telescope being ripped off its hinges, the way it had been in Beauxbatons, flashed through her head, and she had to shake herself to snap out of it.
His permission slip. "Yes, thank you."
Wait. HIS permission slip? She'd given him that permission slip as a joke, because he was in all aspects other than legal, effectively a child.
Oh well. Guess it was all good if he signed it. SPOILER!!: DaniDiNardo Quote:

Rubbing his face in a futile gesture to remove the sleep from his eyes, Kodee walked inside and zombied his way over to Kaiser. The boy unceremoniously leaned against his friend, trusting him to bare the brunt of the weight while he tried to remember what year it was. He nodded Gunnar closer, figuring if he was gonna have to suffer this early morning nonsense then at least he had his friends with him. “You didn’t have to try competing with the Headmaster, Professor. I’d love you just as much if you had this field trip sometime after my braincells woke up, honest.” There was no need for this abomination. First 8 am DADA and now this.
Oh. He almost forgot.
Kodee sleepily fished into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled permission slip. What the point of being of age was when you still needed these was beyond him but his was signed. “All yours, Professor.” And here was Kodee Chosen, which meant that it was almost time to start the lesson. He'd never quite been the type to arrive obscenely early to a lesson, and she really doubted this field trip would be the thing to do it. "Competing with the headmaster?" she asked, eyebrow raised quizzically. "Master Chosen, please, this is no competition." And if it was, she'd win. "Besides, your brain cells will have plenty of time to wake up during this lesson." Slash field trip. "You'll live, I'm sure."
Did she mention she was quite fond of this one? SPOILER!!: MadMadamMalfoy Quote:

Normally the only things that would get him out of bed this early on a weekend were an early morning acting audition or an all-day Star Wars movie marathon, of which this was neither. Still he couldn't help but be excited. This was his first Hogwarts field trip. Best of all, it was in astronomy, and astronomy meant awesome stuff like stars and planets and galaxies, oh my!
He was surprised that his mum let him go, given how far away it was. Hmm… she wouldn't let him go to Beauxbatons last year because it was too far from home, but she was okay with him going all the way to Ethiopia for a field trip? Mum logic, right? Never mind…
A groggy Heath walked into the room, pausing for a quick moment in the doorway to make sure he hadn't done something dumb like forget his permission slip or leave wearing his fuzzy Wookiee slippers with his uniform. No? Good. He gave the professor a small smile as he handed her his permission slip. "H-hello, Professor," he said quietly.
Then Heath's eyes fell to the sack. It was big and bulky, and it sort of looked like Father Christmas's sack. He felt a bit bad for the professor having to carry that thing all by herself! Plucking up his courage to speak again, he asked, "Would you like some help carrying that?" "Hello, Master Jones," she greeted as the boy entered the room. Always a pleasure to have him in class, as it was with most of her students. But the students who were interested in her subject were just the cherry on top. Any professor would agree, really. "Thank you," she said, taking his permission slip and straightening the stack once she added the slip to it. It was getting quite thick now, she hadn't been expecting this response at all!
Oh, her bag? But it was just a lovely prop, and she'd had to put it down to straighten the papers anyway. "Thank you for the offer, dear. Take two points. I'll be quite alright, though." SPOILER!!: 2111jen Quote:

Why. Why. Why did they have to have a lesson set in the morning? And astronamy of all lessons? Austin sighed and handed the professir his permission slip as well. Simran smiled as Austin Spencer walked in, despite his evident despair at being forced to be awake so early on a weekend. Believe her, she knew how horrible it was, but there were many reasons why it had to be today, and right now. "Good morning, Master Spencer." Still lovely that he was here, though, and that his permission slip was now joining the others. SPOILER!!: pundantic Quote:

He strode into Astronomy with a relaxed, content air. All classes should be in the morning, Alessandro decided. It was worlds more productive. "Good morning, Professor," he nodded, politely. He gingerly rescued the slip from his satchel and handed it to Sandu. It read: Ah, another student! And this time, even one who seemed not to be too put out by the early hour. It really made Simran feel a little less guilty, and a lot more ready for the day. Who'd have thought that even women her age needed so much reassurance, so early in the morning. The Ravenclaw had been especially looking forward to this day too because of their field trip. He'd never been to Ethiopia before, so this was a good excuse to learn beyond the corners of the classroom.
He offered a bright smile to Professor Sandhu as he offered his permission slip. Drewett then looked around to see if any of his friends were here already, and that was when he spotted Gunnar so he made his way to the head boy. Naturally, he did a quick salute as his way of greeting again. Head boy and all. "Morning," he said. Drewett decided to leave out the fact that Gunnar hadn't looked too pleased with the early morning conditions during breakfast some time ago. There were Kodee and Kaiser too. Drewett nodded towards them as greeting. Text Cut: Permission slip ASTRONOMY FIELD TRIP

He hadn’t came with a permission slip, because he didn’t need one. He was a grown up and capable of taking care of himself and BESIDES, he was here to help keep the kids in check.
Who knew what they’d shoved in their mouths for breakfast knowing that they were getting out of here soon? Probably sugar. Or lots of food in minimal time. So they could potentially be dealing with hyper kids or puking kids. The latter of which he had a couple of leaves in his satchel that would help with nausea or anything.
Wasn’t he a good egg? Were the kids excited? OH LOOK a fellow adult man!!! He was schmoe excited to see Schmoe. And just before she managed to shut the door, ther snuck a Gurstigius Rainwater through. Simran chuckled, inclined her head towards a seat, and shut the door behind him.
Rainwater was a grown man, yes. He could find his own seat. But MAN was she happy to see him. Having just Schmoe for backup could get dire, especially when one considered that Schmoe was also sometimes more child than adult. Door shut, she turned to the students (and professors) assembled and took her regular place, for when she was teaching. Right in the centre of the room, clapping her hands to get everyone's attention. There seemed to be a lot more people than normal, however, and it took more than one clap before the noise died down.
Die down, it did, however, and it wasn't long before she was ready to start the lesson. "Welcome, everyone, to the first seminar lesson for Astronomy this term." Were they excited? Because she certainly was! "I know that many of you are wondering why I'm making you wake up this early on a weekend, and to go to class, no less. There are reasons, and they'll be made clear soon enough, I promise." "Besides, it's a field trip. Those are fun." At least, she thought so. "Before we start with any of that, though," she said, reaching into her bag of mystery and pulling out a pair of sunglasses. "What can you tell me about the sun?" Yes, even you, professors.
The enchanted stick of chalk was, as always, ready to take down their responses. Even if it was sulking a little at being woken up before its time. OOC: Hello everyone, and welcome again! Please no longer post your characters arriving unless you'd like to lose points for it. This lesson will continue in approximately 36 hours. |
