Thankfully, the man had enough strength and spatial awareness to keep both aloft and intact. "Since we both got our stuff, let's head to the checkout. Maybe we can grab a butterbeer after, eh?"

"Or!" Magdelas quickly interjected. "Or we can go get our school robes?"

"Oh. Yeah, that's probably a good idea." It was easy to see Mr. Maunders wasn't nearly as invested in this proposal, given that he'd gone through the whole process of uniform shopping himself many times during his school days, but he also had the good grace to concede that the day was, in fact, his son's. While this fact had always been in the back of his mind, it did take a few good prods to bring it to the forefront again. For instance, when he caught sight of his son's list.

"Criminy, is that all we've done? Thought the bags were a little light..." Hanging one of the mirrors haphazardly on the nearest wall (effectively muffling another mid-pitch), he grabbed the list and gave it a thorough once over. "Hmm. We really need to stop getting so distracted."

Magdelas was just happy to get things back on track.

Elias did like the sound of a butterbeer, especially since he had no idea what it was, but he supposed that Magdelas had a point about shopping for their school things. That was what his parents had entrusted him to do, after all.

He turned to pick up the gleaming mirror, which wasn't handheld size but was a great deal smaller than the ones Mr. Maunder held, and made his way to the counter. He noticed the shopkeeper eyeing the mirror Mr. Maunder had replaced on the wall, and imagined that the shopkeep would go over and rearrange it the instant they were out the door.

As the shopkeeper wrapped up his mirror, Elias asked, "Aren't you going to bubble wrap it? I don't want it to break..."

The shopkeeper gave him an appraising look for a moment, but then realized Elias' obvious Not From Around These Parts vibe and explained, "This cloth I'm wrapping it in has a shatterproof charm on it. It'll get to where you want it to go safe and sound."

Elias beamed. That was the kind of practical magic he could get behind!

"Thanks!" After he'd paid and slipped the mirror into his satchel, he turned and followed Magdelas and his father out of the shop.
