There were many students whose going ons the man worried about here in the village but while the Hufflepuff worried him for other reasons, behaviour wasn’t on that list.

“No sea of friends to get lost in today, Anderson-Belfort?” It was a Hogsmeade weekend afterall. This was the time to grab your friends and tear through the joke or candy shop, take someone out for tea, all that fancy teenage hormone filled stuff.

It seemed he’d spoken too soon. Here came one of the boy’s friends now. Oh? Introductions? Not particularly a friend then. Malachi nodded at the First Year’s greeting. How was he today? There were many dramatic answers the man could give but instead he settled for “A bit tired, if I’m being honest.” And as if on cue, a yawn came forth unbidden. Sleep was harder to come by these days and who could blame him.

“Either of you got specific plans for the afternoon?” It wasn’t a suspicious question by any means. The Headmaster was genuinely curious about how they’d be spending this free time. What did the youth do now a days anyway?

Preparing himself for an uncomfortable encounter, the youngest Anderson-Belfort never saw the first year coming. "Professor." he said first, nodding his head in greeting. The question felt a little pointed, at least to the very tall Hufflepuff, and he cringed just a bit before slowly speaking again, taking his time so the words would not be a staccato mess. "N-N-not today. Just me." And that was fine. Not all Hufflepuffs needed to be surrounded by a pack of friends at all times (or ever, in this case).

Maxie was chewing on a getaway when a Ravenclaw- one he had often seen but never spoken to- sidled into the conversation with an enthusiasm Maxie both admired and (in the moment) feared.

"h-hello." Maxie said, clearing his throat as his discomfort level rose from a 4 to a solid 6. There were many things Maxie Barton Anderson-Belfort disliked but chief among them was introducing himself. His name was long, ridiculous (important), and often led to confused looks or- in extreme cases- amusement. "M-maxie." He said, sticking his hands deep into his pockets and gripping the material- a very fine sheepskin- tightly.

Hardly realizing his faux-pas, Maxie turned his wide-eyes back to Headmaster Trent.
There was an implication here- that himself and Avalon were friends- which Maxie did not like. There was no offense meant to Avalon, who seemed nice enough, but he only had one friend and that was a very pointed decision. The 13-year-old looked to the ground. "I'm g-going to the quill s-shop." A decision made, it seemed.
Avalon was almost shocked to hear that Headmaster Trent was tired. Or maybe she was more surprised that he actually admitted he was tired. Nevertheless, she nodded in understanding. "I know the feeling!" Quidditch had been running her ragged over the past few weeks. Between team practice, matches, and schoolwork, she was exhausted. As if on cue, she lightly grasped her left wrist, prodding it gently to see if her bruise from practice last week had healed yet. A dull ache told her that it hadn't.

And Headmaster Trent was polite enough to ask about her plans for the day! She was glad that he showed genuine interest in the students at Hogwarts. "I'm meeting some friends at Three Broomsticks a bit later for some butterbeer." It wasn't anything special, but she was looking forward to some relaxation time with some fellow Claws. In the mean time, Avalon had considered stopping into Madam Puddifoot's for a scone. But she didn't really want to witness a snog-fest. "I'll probably go to Gladrags at some point too." She definitely couldn't pass up a new scarf or sweater. She had been saving her allowance for several weeks for the Hogsmeade weekend, and Avalon would have no problem with spending it on some new clothes. "What about you? Any exciting plans for the day?" It was probably polite to ask Headmaster Trent what his plans were, too, right? Hopefully it wasn't too intrusive of her to bring it up.

At that, she turned back to the Hufflepuff boy, who was looking more and more uncomfortable by the minute. She got the feeling that he didn't really want to be spoken to at the moment (and honestly she couldn't blame him - there were plenty of times when she wanted to walk in silence with nobody to bother her), so she made her response quick. "Nice to meet you Maxie! Hope to see you around." She gave him a warm smile, genuinely hoping that it would help calm his nerves. He seemed like he was very on edge.
