No quotes, but you all were mentioned. :) Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch There was a bit of a pause after the question had been asked. Colin couldn't help put dart his eyes left to right and back again repeatedly. The silence was a bit concerning. Should he have said manoeuvres instead? Regardless, he didn't expect much from the first years; however, he had noticed there were plenty of older kids who could carry the class.
Then at last the silence was broken. The Flying instructor had to suppress a snort. Sweeping? "Umm ... not quite, Miss Walsh," he responded to the sixth year, leaving it that. This was Flying class, so naturally he was looking for something related to that and not a House-Elf duty.
His attention then shifted to Dantes, and her mention of broom surfing caused him to nod his head. His head continued to move in the same motion as Newton, Tamesis, and Smethwyck brought up the Sloth Grip Roll, Double Eight Loop, and Starfish and Stick. "All good manoeuvres. Done each of these myself back in the day."
MacKenzie glanced at Mr. Dooley, certain that the boy had something to contribute considering he was a former captain. But the man had to carry on when another round of students spoke out.
Sinclair earned a simple head nod. "Weaving is likely the term yer looking for? Or maybe the Extreme Dive and Pull Up?" It all really depending on what she was thinking of, but he was willing to bet his Galleons on the former considering the girl was a Chaser.
Eye contact was made with Miss Castillo, though the gaze was quick as she didn't seem to have anything to contribute. Then his blue eyes shifted over to Miss Bell. "Right. Tamesis just described that to us."
A nod of approval was sent Winklebleck's way. Burke received a stern look at the mention of dusting. Between her and Walsh, Colin wasn't sure if they were trying to be funny or if they were just not knowledgeable. Not wanting to dive into that, he gave Miss Awning a nod (summoning a broom was not quite a tactic in his opinion, but it was a necessity nonetheless) as well as Mr. Potter's mention of the Dopplebeater Defence.
Getting the vibe that no one else was going to contribute an answer, Colin continued on with the lesson. "Now, of course, there are more tactics that weren't mentioned, but there is no need to worry about that right now. That's what future lessons are for, ye know. Today yer focus on going to be on masterin' the Sloth Grip Roll. As Miss Newton already stated, it's used to avoid Bludgers and such by hanging upside down on yer broomstick. Sounds easy in theory, but a different matter when put to practice - especially when there's a million things going on around ye."
"But right now we're goin' to do the Sloth Grip Roll. Low risk scenario, just practice. Keep yer eyes on me so ye know what I want ye all to do."
Once all eyes were on him, Colin mounted his broomstick and rose into the air until he was hovering some feet from the ground. "First ye are going to hover in the air a distance yer comfortable with. I recommend at least five or six feet. Once yer hovering, grip onto the handle of yer broom as tight as ye can with yer hands, keep yer feet firmly in place, and allow yerself to tip over." Within a blink of an eye, the man had gripped onto the handle firmly and let his body dip downward until he was looking at them upside down. "When yer ready to return back to yer original position, just swing yerself back up," he added, his body making a swift movement upward.
"To recap: hover in the air, tightly grip the handle, keep yer feet in place, and allow yer body to tip over. I would like all of ye to try to do the Sloth Grip Roll successfully. Once ye get confident, feel free to continue doing the tactic at greater heights and move around the Training Grounds. This'll be good practice for the game I have planned for the last part of class." OOC: It's mini-activity time! As Colin said, your character needs to attempt the Sloth Grip Roll while hovering 5-6 feet above the ground. Once they do so successfully, they should continue practicing the tactic at various heights while flying around the area. Have fun with this as I know there are characters with various levels of comfortability and experience on a broom!
