You get your hands into it, because it interests you, and Fehu it's kind of like you win or earn something. Like a trophy? Or even just winning a game?" She hoped she wasn't on the complete opposite of what Ewan was saying.
She looked over at the part of the textbook Ewan was snortling over and cracked a laugh herself. With that in mind, she looked at Fehu and something clicked a bit more. "I suppose if you look at the reversed meanings from Fehu you can see it indicates failure. And if you can relate it to getting stuck into something that interests you, the reverse of winning at whatever it is would be failure."
And there was Professor Beryl, giving them insight to the runes they were discussing. She was about to ask whether the Merkstave meaning would be used, but it was answered almost as soon as she thought it. She looked back to her textbook to see if she could stretch any of the Merkstave of her runes to the traits she had picked out.
"So if I look at Reliable as a trait, I chose Eihwaz because it seemed very fitting." And here, she looked for her own Eihwaz rune, and placed it reversed. "But if it was reversed, something like confusion and dissatisfaction could be used to represent persistence. Because if I don't understand something, I might be confused about it, and dissatisfied with this black hole of something I don't know. And my persistence in trying to understand said thing comes about from being confused and dissatisfied." She paused to think over what she'd just said. "Is that an acceptable interpretation?" She asked both Ewan and Professor Beryl. Ewan could literally feel his brain start to fry as both Hanna and Professor Beryl both discussed the runes and interpretations further. Watching carefully as the professor demonstrated the difference between the runes and the way they fall, he jotted a few notes down paraphrasing her words so that he could re-read it later when his brain was a little bit less fried.
”So am I right in saying that no matter where they fall or how they do, it does depend on the situation and interpretation” He really didn’t want to repeat her words, just try to put them into his own so he could understand better. Moving ever so slightly now to face both Hanna and the professor, he put down his pen to make sure he gave them both his fullest attention. He may not be the brightest but he had no choice but to focus and try his best to understand.
Ewan really did find it interesting to see the reasoning behind some of the runes that Hanna had matched with certain characteristics. Running one of his hands through the copious amounts of curls, he gave her a reassuring nod, showing that he agreed with her reasoning.
”That may work as long as you’re still being persistent in finding the answer. Although, couldn’t Dagaz maybe work for that too?”. Pulling out his rune to show them both now, he plopped it down on the table the right way up.
”Making a breakthrough on something that you've been struggling with and then being aware when it’s okay to try a different method or way forward could also show persistence because you’re trying different methods to find the right answer”. Pausing briefly, not wanting to get his own thoughts mixed up, he continued
“ Also, it mentions having the power of will so maybe that could link to persistence although i'm not really sure if it'd work for being reliable too. ”.
One thing that was certainly going to take away from this lesson is the fact that the runes are very much up for interpretation.
