Sounded right. She took the boot back off and handed it off to the next unlucky soul before putting her own shoe back on and taking her seat with an "Odd choice for an activity, Professor." No offense meant.
After writing the result on her parchment, she sat back to watch everyone else. And the first student to step up was a prefect, a plucky seeming one, which didn't bother Carmine in the slightest. Odd, was it? Good. She wanted her students to be kept guessing and certainly didn't want anyone who walked into her classroom to walk out again thinking the subject was a bore. "I should hope so." He made sure that his Ravenclaw tie was properly straight and his sleeves were folded down to make sure he gave a good first impression. Dorian entered the classroom and looked for the professor first and spotted her at the blackboard. He greeted her back before he looked around for any sign on what they would be doing today. It did not take long for him to notice Calrissian trying on the boot and then he saw the sole crack open just like the sorting hat would do and it spoke. Huh...interesting.
Getting the idea of what he was about to do, the sixth year patiently waited until it was his turn and pulled off his own shoe to try the boot on when the time came. He felt a bit silly, standing there with two different kind of shoes on, not to mention that he had to hop on place which he wondered if they REALLY had to do that or if it was just for amusement but he still did it. He hopped and hopped until the sole cracked open and a voice told him..."Advocate - INFJ-T" ....alright...he was intrigued to find out what that meant. He took off the boot and put on his own shoe before finding a seat near the front of the class and placed his supplies on the desk and wrote down his result on the piece of parchment before leaning back in his seat to watch the others get sorted. "Welcome to Runes." Professor Beryl said, once the boy had sat down, following the instructions. SPOILER!!: Jessiqua Quote:

And... then she saw the ancient, worn-looking cowboy boot. That they were instructed to put on. Hanna's face nearly betrayed what she was thinking. Not so much a germaphobe, Hanna didn't often put on shoes of unknown origin. Never, actually. But she also wasn't going to say no to the activity, so she removed one of her shoes and replaced it with the shoe on display. After hopping around and feeling the shoe shrink to fit her foot, the sole opened up into a mouth shape and said "Defender; ISFJ-A." Having absolutely no idea what that even meant, Hanna removed the boot, placed it back onto the stool, and headed to a free chair, offering a wave to her peers as she did so, getting her rune set, a roll of parchment, her rune journal, and quill with her new pot of black ink. It was lovely to see students following the instructions without complaint. Not that Carmine expected otherwise but all the same, it sent a lovely precedent that she hoped would continue. She began to hop a few times and then a voice appeared. "Defender: ISFJ-T!" "I wonder what that means," she thought to herself as she removed the boot from her foot, placed it back on the stool and put her own shoe back on. Daisy then sat down at an empty seat near Archer and retrieved her rune journal, set of runes, quill, ink and parchment. She grabbed her parchment, quill and ink and wrote: It looked like this young woman was already wondering about what it all meant, at least the thoughtful expression made Carmine think so. Good! Upon reading the instructions, her excitement for things only escalated, and she took no time in putting on the shoe, though for a moment she did wonder and ended up wrinkling her nose at the thought of ... all the dirty feet that had already been there.
And no sooner had she put it on, the boot announced: Protagonist - ENFJ-T.
Curious, so curious, the brunette found herself a seat - and wrote it down as instructed. "Good morning to you! I quite agree. A lovely day." Professor Beryl answered, smiling kindly. Hopefully the day would only be improved for the young lady! SPOILER!!: sweetpinkpixie Quote:

And stepping into the Ancient Runes classroom greeting the professor silently with a polite nod, brought him nothing but skepticism.
A boot. To sort their MBTI type? What did that even mean? Still Eiji was perfectly capable of follow instructions when given and so he waited in line behind his peers until it was his turn to slip the boot on. Did he really have to hop though? He didn't even do that when he was testing out new shoes for purchase. ".....does it matter which foot?" he asked with a raised brow while watching those before him for any sort of hint. Though there seemed no real rhyme or reason to which, likely the dominant foot if he had to guess. But before he could receive a response, it was his turn and he decided to just not think too hard about this and slipped off his left shoe and then fitted it into the boot. No hopping here, though he did flex his foot and push up on to his tip toes and roll back on to his heel instead. It was while he had rolled back on to the heel that the boot had initially attempted to announce this type rubbish, but it was muffled and spoken into the ground and therefore came out like utter nonsense.
Likely what he was going to find this whole M...MBTI type busisness to be.
So, flattening his foot, he allowed the boot a second attempt to speak. "ISTJ-A...SENTINEL...LOGISTICIAN!"
"....right."
He knew what sentinel meant and he could figure out what logistician meant, but so what?
Glancing over at Professor Beryl again inquisitively before sitting himself beside Missa and wrote down what the boot had said on his parchment and then.......waited. "Protagonist," he smirked at her in amusement. "Interesting." What did this have to do with the Elder Futhark, exactly? "Welcome!" Professor Beryl said, watching the young boy take his turn and then take a seat. And good, he was showing interest and curiosity in one of his classmate's results! That boded well for the lesson ahead. SPOILER!!: Felixir Quote:

Easy enough concept, even for him. When it was his turn, Kaiser stepped up, removed his shoe, and tried on the funny looking boot, leaving his foot hovering up in the air, as he'd already seen exactly what part it spoke from. "ISFP-T... The Adventurer..."
Adventurer? Well, that... okay, that sounded about right to him. Kaiser slipped the boot back off and replaced it with his own shoe, then headed to his desk and started getting out what he needed. He had a rune set, he had a rune journal... ah... he did not have parchment, or a quill, or ink...
Problematic.
Kaiser had forgotten about that. He looked around, seeking out a friend or a least an acquaintance who might be willing to donate to his cause. Oh yes, morning again. "Good day, Professor." Her peach-tinted lips curved into a smile as she greeted the woman.
A temperament sorting boot, huh?
The Hufflepuff looked curiously before taking of one of her flat shoe. First there was a sorting hat that was used for sorting her into the house and now... this. Interesting, the thought. She put her right foot into the boot and it didn't take a long time before it spoke. "ENTERTAINER, ESFP-T!"
..... huh.
So she's an Entertainer. Did this mean she should pursue a career in entertainment industry after Hogwarts? Let's just not thinking about that first. "You don't mind if I sit here, do you?" Aurora decided to join Archer after dealing with the sorting boot. Just like what the instruction had said, she wrote her type at the top of parchment. "Good day!" With a big grin on his face as he entered, he couldn't help but notice the stool that had been placed at the front of the class with the most peculiar item astride it. An old cowboy boot. Not being able to help himself he turned to the professor “Uh Professor, please tell me you’re a secret cowboy? I mean, what happened to the other boot? Did you lose it in some type of stand-off?”. Small waves of laughter emulated from him as he waited patiently to try on the boot, excitement building as he watched some of the previous students hopping up and down in a cowboy boot, looking slightly ridiculous yet somewhat amusing.
Finally, after a few minutes, it was his turn to try on the tattered, well-worn boot. Slipping his shoe off quickly, he picked up the boot, give the spur a little spin and then carefully slid it onto his foot before finally looking down at it wide eyed with amusement. "Hey guys, watcha think? Is this a good look for me?” sticking his leg out with the boot on as it to model it. Without further ado, he hopped on the boot for a few seconds before it finally shouted out
“ISFP- Adventurer”. “Uh...Professor, are we supposed to know what that means?” unsure exactly what ISFP exactly meant, he took the boot off and handed it to the next person. Adventurer? Well that sounded cool and all but the rest of it? That he would have to research at the library later if he didn’t find out this lesson. Taking a seat a little off to the left, he pulled out his items and made a note of exactly what the old boot had said at the top of his parchment. Eyes twinkling at the questions spilling from the boy, Carmine gave him a wink. "Yippee ki yay." She said. And when he sat down and asked another question she chuckled. "You'll find out." In detail appropriate for the lesson of course. Beyond that she'd absolutely encourage him to do further research. SPOILER!!: siriusblackliveson Quote:

Why on earth would they—OHHH. It somehow told them what MBTI they were... well what ever that was. He figured the worst thing that would happen was it tried to tell him he was something he was not. That would be the icing on the cake for him.
FINALLY stepping up to the boot he placed it on his foot. Set it to the ground. No sooner had he rolled his weight to the ball of his foot did the boot holler out, “Campaigner, ENFP-A!”
Patrick shrugged his shoulder and turned to go grab a seat. He headed back to grab a seat. When he walked by Aurora he gave her a small waive. He remembered meeting her in Diagon Alley. He ended up behind her but near Kiaser. He noticed he looked frazzled, ”You okay man?” Another young man following the instructions. Ah, so this boot was a weird sorting device. Was it as.....sentient as the sorting hat, though?
The blonde approached the front of the classroom. "Good morning, Professor," she greeted the new professor as she wiggled her right shoe off. "What's your" - Tessa squinted at the blackboard - "MBTI type, Professor?" Surely that was a reasonable thing to ask, considering all the students were revealing theirs. She slipped on the old boot without too much thought. Was the hopping necessary? Not that she minded doing it.....it just seemed like a strange requirement is all.
..........Hop. Hop. Hop.
After a few moment, a voice sounded from the cracked sole of the boot. "ESFP-A.....ENTERTAINER!" Entertainer..... Now that sounded PERFECT to her. What else could she hope to be? She had heard some other students get thing like Logistician, Protagonist, and Campaigner shouted at them. She didn't know what exactly they implied, but they sounded boring in comparison to Entertainer.
Tessa took a random seat towards the front of the classroom and, after retrieving parchment, ink, and a quill from her bag, wrote her type in LARGE writing at the top of the parchment. "Why I'm ENFJ myself." Professor Beryl answered, smiling at the question. She watched the girl do what was instructed on the blackboard and gave her an appreciative smile. Nice to see. Eloise couldnt say that was wrong or anything since she had no idea what was even happening right now.
Entrepreneur sounded fun tho. As quick as possible she took off the boot and back into her own shoe and made her way to to a seat and wrote down what she asked. Also what did this have to do with Runes.

It didn't take her long to figure out what this was about. So this shoe was charmed like the Sorting Hat? and it told you what your temperament was?? That was some amazing magic. Even though the thought of putting on a shoe that a dozen other people had already worn was disgusting, she was still willing to try it and see what her result would be. When it was her turn, she stepped up, took off her own shoe and put on the old sorting boot, which shrunk a little bit to fit her small foot. The Commander, she liked it. "Good morning, Professor Beryl!" Jade said to the new teacher as she put on her own shoe and went to take a seat. She then took out her equipment, arranged it neatly on her desk and wrote her MBTI result on top of her parchment in large letters so that everyone in the class could see that she was a Commander. But his attention was soon drawn to the cowboy boot and the person in front of him trying it on before it shouted out a serious of letters. What was this? As he was instructed to take his turn, the fifteen year old stepped up to the stool, took off his own shoe, and stepped into the boot. Hopefully the professor knew the value of sanitation charms because he knew how sweaty his own feet could get after a good run. Were they...going to cast stones into the boot? That seemed unlikely, but it was new content either. It wasn't until he read the instructions on the board that he realized what he needed to do. That must explain why everyone was putting it on. Apparently, the boot was supposed to tell what their MBTI type was.
...For some reason, MBTI sounded familiar. The Ravenclaw wondered if he's read that somewhere.
However, as all Drewett Slinkhards were, the fifth year removed his shoe and put on the boot when it was his turn. It was strange at first, feeling the boot enclose around his foot to fit his size. He flexed his toes a little as he stood up and briefly walked around, before he hopped in place. This was embarrassing. Drewett didn't want to do this for too long. Maybe he'd just—"INFJ-T, the advocate!"
He knew exactly what that was now. It made sense that it was familiar. In fact, Drewett had read about personality types before, just recently during the summer on his free time. Yeah, he read almost about everything so that came to no surprise, but personalities and identities were topics that the Ravenclaw had found rather intriguing. The objectivities in the subjective were topics that interested him. "M-Myer Briggs, professor?" He asked as he removed the boot from his foot, replacing it on the stool and wearing his own shoe again. He had thought about what his MBTI type would be before, but it was nice to finally know what it was. Perhaps the sorting boot, whatever its name was, was a reliable source.
After writing down his MBTI type on the parchment as instructed, Drewett went to take a seat beside Lenora. "Hey," he said with a smile as he took out the necessary things from his bag. "Good morning! That's right," Or close enough. "Myers-Briggs!" She smiled as the boy went ahead and followed instructions. Another good one! SPOILER!!: Charely Potter Quote:

Yep, Ancient Runes was one of the choices. Though he seemed more intrigued by it from the start than his Daddy.
As soon as he stepped in, he smiled, "Hi Professor." Smiles were contagious and helped you and others feel good most of the time and he didn't want to be in class feeling bad or bored. Learning should be fun. Now they were apparently going to try on an old boot.
He blinked, being very glad that he didn't practice Flying right before class cause the smell of a sweaty foot was something no one needed to experience in class. Anyways, he replaced the shoe with the boot and started hopping. He wondered if it was going to somehow talk to his foot like the sorting hat. But before he could think anymore on that, "Debater ENTP-A." Oh, there was that older Hufflepuff who got the same thing. That was interesting. Really interesting.
He took his seat to write it all down with his name. "Hello, welcome to Ancient Runes!" Carmine smiled right back in warm welcome. She wanted her students to feel at ease in here, even if sometimes they might come across things that might surprise them a little. SPOILER!!: 2111jen Quote:

After that, he went up and tried on the boot. It automatically shrunk to fit his foot. Okay...he waited a few minutes before a voice was heard that said.
"Virtuoso ISTP-T." Huh, that was interesting.
Austin took off the boot and headed to an empty seat. When he sat down, he took out his rune sets, his parchment, his rune journal, and a quill and ink bottle out of his duffle. He also took out his personal journal and a pencil, it was a lot faster and easier to write things down if he was called on with a pencil rather then a quill, and set them all on a table. Carmine smiled and waved back at the boy when he noticed her and watched him take his turn. She didn't mind the pencil for writing, but was pleased to see he still had the requested equipment. And hopped around. Although Józef had pretty good balance, he also had (in his opinion and not Lawra's) a pretty good sense of humour, and so made his hopping as dramatic as he possibly could. Just for the fun of it - his fun. It didn't take long before the boot was talking, though. "ENFP-a: the Campaigner."
Grudgingly, Jó took the boot off and returned it to the stool, before finding his seat. He wrote down what the boot had said, but he definitely didn't understand it. Neither did he really care - all he wanted to know was what his friends had got. Tired was he? Carmine assumed it was sleepiness bringing out the yawns rather than boredom. It was too soon to be bored! She smiled watching his hopping antics though. Perhaps this young man would like this subject in spite of himself. SPOILER!!: SilverTiger Quote:

However, one thing she hadn’t expected when she walked into the first lesson of term after breakfast was the worn boot on the stool looking ever so much like an upside-down Sorting Hat. “Good morning, Professor Beryl,” she greeted the professor with a smile, queuing up behind the other students waiting to try on the boot. It gave her time to try and figure out what her temperament had to do with Runes, anyway, and she was still mulling it over as she’d reached the stool and slipped her shoe off to replace it with the boot. Awkwardly, more so because with her long limbs it was difficult to get the boot on without sitting down, but after a few moments she managed it.
Wondering exactly what spells were on the boot as she tested it by hopping a few times, feeling rather like one of Isa’s rabbits she had visited many times while the older girl had still been here at Hogwarts, she wasn’t surprised when it suddenly spoke. “ENFP-T, THE CAMPAIGNER”
That was interesting, and it reminded her of the term when Headmaster Scrimgeour reigned. The revolution to depose him, specifically, and she glanced over at Archer as she made her way over to a seat near Rylee and took out her necessary supplies, writing the boot’s conclusion at the top of a page clearly. Now to figure out how this connected to Runes. "Good morning!" Carmine greeted the prefect. SPOILER!!: ArianaBlack Quote:

While Nina did let a polite smile grace her features for a moment to greet her Professor, it didn't last very long. Because upon sight of their first activity, a REAL pout made way onto her face. They were meant to try on an old shoe???
No. Nina Castillo would never.
Especially not when everyone else was putting the same one on. As if having to put the sorting hat on her head last year wasn't enough. She had tried to refuse then and she would most certainly try to refuse now. There was absolutely no way. Some of these people liked to walk around the castle barefoot. Their feet were disgusting. Nina had to draw boundaries and used shoes, were one of them.
So each time the queue grew shorter and she was almost at the front, the Slytherin politely let other students go in front of her and made her way back to the end of the line. "Oh, you can go ahead of me," she motioned the student behind her to step forward, while she took a step out. Back to the back of the queue she went. "Go ahead." Carmine invited the young girl, who was clearly reluctant. Guessing the possible reason for her reluctance, Professor Beryl added: "Don't worry, its bespelled for hygiene, I promise." She WAS the healer after all. She gave her a small, encouraging wink. SPOILER!!: PhoenixRising Quote:

At least not the kind of runes that her aunt studied.
An old boot though ... was this some kind of metaphor maybe? In that you had to walk a mile in someone else's shoes ... only they weren't walking ... Just had to slip off her shoe and put it on and OH DEAR MERLIN, she hoped her peers had clean feet.
Stepping up to the stool she stood on one foot as she slid her shoe off and into the boot. And hopped around a few times, surprised at how well the shoe fit. Surely not everyone had the same size feet, which had Maeve curious now as to the charms on the boot. Suddenly, as had done with the sorting hat when it was placed on her head five years ago, the boot shouted out quite quickly, "Campaigner - ENFP-A"
Huh. What did that even mean??? She liked to campaign for her friends; was that related? Boot off and her own shoe on, she found a seat near the window to contemplate this some. A thinker, this one? She seemed in her own head. Carmine smiled at her in welcome all the same. Nothing wrong with that! SPOILER!!: hermionesclone Quote:

It was a moment or two later that the third year shuffled forwards, joining the line of other students. His eyes first found the new Professor, who got a simple "Hello, Professor," and a small smile. It was then that his eyes landed on the board which, uh, started to make more sense.
So put on the boot, hop around and..... get sorted? Wasn’t one sorting enough??
That funny butterfly feeling in his stomach was starting to return and he found himself wrangling his hands as he watched everyone getting sorted. He reaaaaaaaaaally didn't like the idea of being sorted in front of everyone. And did he have to make conversation with it? Because the Sorting Hat had been speaking to him the entire time and he really didn't want to be told that he was like his father another-
..........
Huh?
Blinking, he forced his attention onto the student in front of him, a girl with long hair (Nina) who said he could go ahead? Well, okay, then. "Oh, uh, thanks," he muttered, flashing her a small smile. Did he have time to wander why she was stepping back? No. He was far too focused on the boot and-
Oh, it was his turn? Yeah, okay.
Stepping up to the stool, he slid off one of his shoes and placed the boot on, instead. His first thought? How old this boot was. It looked like it was two hops away from falling apart. And was it clean? Lucas wrinkled his nose slightly as he looked over the boot and then at the Professor and then back again. It was comfortable, so there was that.
There was only one thing for it: Hop, hop, hop, hop, hop......
He half-expected the shoe to start talking to him, telling him everything he didn't want to know, but apparently, that wasn't happening today. Because the shoe was quiet. Was it working? Did he not have an MB-whatever ty- "INFP-T: the Mediator!"
Nevermind.
Glad to be taking the shoe off, Lucas put his own black shoes back on again and went to sit down. Where? He didn't really care, just somewhere away from the spotlight. Taking a seat, he hastily scribbled down whatever the old boot had said onto a spare piece of parchment before sitting back. Was the Professor going to explain? Please explain. "Hello and welcome!" Carmine said with warmth, eyes twinkling at the young boy when he kept shooting looks at her. The answers would come! SPOILER!!: nicole black Quote:

The Hufflepuff had been very seriously considering ignoring the boot altogether, but before he could think of a feasible reason why, Nina Castillo - the very girl who had kissed his cheek without even a proper introduction - was urging him on. Having properly misunderstood the situation, Maxie and his gangly limbs hurried forward, past the Slytherin girl and her nice-smelling curls, to the boot and whatever judgement it would pass unto him.
but she hadn't been speaking to him at all, but to Dakest. How did Maxie know this? Because the other boy had thanked her, even.
Cool. yeah, cool. Maxie decided, as he waited his turn, to stare at the floor. healthy coping mechanisms.
He wriggled out of his sneaker (a very clean Off-White Air Jordan, and slippered his foot into the spurred shoe. It shrunk down, as was to be expected and that was where the embarrassment began to leak in. Hopping? Hopping? No, he most certainly didn't want to. It didn't matter that everyone else already had or was going to. Maxie was not the type to jump off a bridge after his friends and he wasn't the type to hop around either.
But the boot.. was on.
It was on.
and people were waiting.
and his brow had begun to sweat.
and it somehow felt as if the boot were becoming smaller- tighter- almost uncomfortably. "F-fine," He grunted, hopping once, then twice, and then once more for an unhappy three- and all the while he was as red as red could be. Miserable, Maxie flinched as the boot coughed and opened up a mouth the Hufflepuff wasn't happy to see. "ISTJ-T."
Relieved, and curious, Maxie stepped out of the now much larger boot and rushed off to a quiet corner where he could put back on his Jordan and be miserable in peace.
Carmine had smiled at the boy in return but what was this? Another one in non-uniform footwear? She cast a disappointed look at the boy's feet. "Sneakers are not uniform items, young man. You should be wearing your school shoes. We have a little time before we begin - if you're quick you'll be back in time and I won't have to take any house points. Please go change your shoes to your approved school shoes now." Her look was not unkind, but it was firm. It did not escape her notice that this one was a Hufflepuff and therefore he had far more distance to cover than the other, a Gryffindor, which was a shame but that was how the cookie crumbled. Tut tut. Did she need to put a note on her noticeboard about this? School uniform was uniform for a reason! SPOILER!!: Lissy Longbottom Quote:

That was making her shudder inside. This was FEET we were talking about! By the time kids got to Hogwarts, she assumed most people knew to wash their hair on a daily basis. But she had seen how gross adult feet could get - her dad's feet were NASTY - so she had very low hopes for her classmates. She only hoped that this new professor had put some sort of hygiene spell on this boot because if she got some sort of foot fungus from this, she was going to RIOT.
Wrinkling her nose slightly, she took off her ballet flat - thankfully she'd worn tights with her uniform today, so she at least had THAT to protect her precious feet - and slipped the boot on to her foot when her turn came around. Now she had to...hop around? Ok. Whatever she had to do to get this thing off ASAP...
She bounced in place a few times, and thankfully it only took a few little leaps before the mouth of the boot opened up and yelled out her personality type. "ENTJ-T - The Commander!" the boot shouted out to the whole class. That was just a bunch of letters to Nettie at this moment...but she hadn't heard anyone else get called with those same letters. What did this all MEAN? Was she special? Unique? Or just a weirdo who was going to end up being partnered with the professor at the end of all of this...or maybe someone HAD been called with those letters. Honestly, there were so many letters being shouted left and right it was hard to keep track.
Taking the boot off and handing it to the next person, she grabbed her boot and then headed to her desk. She took out a parchment and wrote her sorting in large letters before putting it up on her desk for everyone to see. Carmine welcomed the young lady and watched her take her turn, pleased to see her following the given instructions even if there did seem to be a little reluctance there. Er... Now what? Analiese turned around and looked at the board. No. No, Analiese Allanach-Senchuri was not hopping around in an old cowboy boot. She had no choice anyway. The 11-year-old reluctantly stood up and hopped around. Analiese gasped a little as the mouth of the boot opened.
"INFJ-T, The Advocate!"
What on Earth did it even say? The first part was a bunch of letters - something like INFJ-T - and the second part was The Advocate. Analiese shrugged and took the shoe off. She found her desk and sat down. She then pulled out a piece of parchment and wrote the result down. One of the small ones! Carmine smiled warmly at the young girl as she figured out what was going on and took her turn. She'd soon see where this was all going, as would they all.
