Rylee very nearly scoffed at him when he said that distracting herself wouldn't work for long. It was working very very well for her. No one seemed to understand that she didn't think they way they did, how easy it was to say her parents were only away on business, they were always away on business. If he hadn't continued speaking she may have very well completely ignored all that he was saying... only... she had been listening. The words 'parents' 'car accident' and a few others clicked for her. Many many years ago her grandparents and sister had been in a car accident and her sister survived but that pain was still with Rian all these years later. "I'm alright though, Professor. I've always pushed myself to remain ahead in my studies, accomplishing things tougher than what I'm probably capable of. I enjoy the challenge." Hopefully he understood that she wasn't aiming to be rude here but simply trying to protect her own heart by building up walls of false truth, living her own little world of fantasy. Her eyes had taken on just the slightest hint of sadness, maybe for him having to have dealt with that, maybe for herself, who really knew.
