some history;

Esperanza was born on a balmy December day in Montevideo to Aurora Calderón and Ricardo Agüero. Aurora Calderón, a witch with a passion for muggle sports, was a renowned tennis player in Uruguay and Ricardo a disgraced muggle businessman and pilot. Their marriage had not always been steady, with difficult beginnings and including the financial downfall of Ricardo's company. But with Esperanza's birth, it had seemed as if their luck was turning. They never lacked love, and slowly they rebuilt their world. Aurora returned to play after an injury, Ricardo restarted his business and it seemed as though life had finally sorted itself out.

Two years passed in bliss. Ricardo's company was doing very well locally, and Aurora had turned to teach tango - a childhood hobby. On November 7th, 2092, Ricardo never answered his phone. He had been returning from a business trip, piloting his own plane, when a freak storm materialised in the flight path. Aurora's life ended the day she had to bury her husband, and it took her a very long time to pick herself back up. She ran into financial troubles once again, Ricardo's company was taken away, a family friend even suggested Esperanza be removed from her care, for her daughter's sake. Aurora realised she needed a fresh start.

In 2093, on a chilly October evening, Aurora and Esperanza moved into their new home at Oxford, England. Aurora had called some old friends, and spent years working very hard in England to pay off her debts to everyone who had assisted her. Slowly but surely they found their footing, and life was as good as it could hope to be.

Esperanza, very quickly adopting the nickname Zaza, or just Zaz, grew up hearing stories about her wonderful father and compared each and every man her mother ever introduced to her, to that ideal man she'd created in her imagination. No one was good enough for her mother, because she'd already had the best husband in life - her father - and it's better to be alone than to be with someone who is beneath her. Zaz spent her entire childhood monkeying around, pulling pranks on her mother and her friends, causing trouble at school, all in the name of "distract and attack".

Zaz grew up a very spirited child, full of her father's energy and positivity towards life, but every bit her mother's daughter with her pragmatism and practicality. Zaz started playing tennis when she was six years old, and children's quidditch when she was seven (a beater, of course). She is very much hoping to continue to play at Hogwarts, but prefers being on the U14 team. Other than tennis and saving her mother from a horribly embarrassing marriage proposal (she had swapped the diamond ring with a cheap alternative from the arcade and his face had been a picture), mucking around and hitting bludgers at people has been her greatest achievement in life.

Until Hogwarts, possibly. Who knows what will happen now.

Origin of surname: Cherie and her mother Haley are distant descendants of Pierre Bonaccord, the first Supreme Mugwump of International Confederation of Wizards. They are as of yet unaware that this is their lineage, and Haley wouldn't much care regardless.

EARLY YEARS
Cherie was born to Haley Bonaccord-Black and Harvey Anderson one rainy February evening in Dallas. Harvey thought she was the most beautiful little creature he'd ever seen, and refused to leave the baby's side despite Haley insisting he could go home. They weren't really together, she'd only been seeing him to fill a hole her late husband had left in her heart. But Harvey insisted, and said they should name her Cherry. His own cherry bean, his little angel Cherry, with the cute button nose and strong stubby fingers and sneezes so powerful they knocked her tiny head back.

The name also alluded to Haley's favourite song, an old rock banger by the muggle band The Runaways called Cherry Bomb. She recognised it as Harvey's attempt to be nice to her, so she agreed to it, but with a French twist. Cherelle, who will be nicknamed Cherie in French, Angelique Anderson. Cherry Anderson. For a few months, Cherry Anderson lived in the middle of Harvey's trailer. Haley could not look at her, couldn't bear the thought that she had a child not with her ex-husband but some random touring guitarist she'd met on the road.

Harvey doted on his little daughter's every need, doing all he could to keep her happy. He'd never thought this day would come, that someone would need him quite like this perfect little baby. One night he stepped out for a few moments to grab some baby formula and when he returned the bassinet was empty, and his little cherry bean angel was gone. He cried, and cried, and sent owls for a year. He never saw her again.

Haley made her way back to France with Cherelle, forgetting all about Harvey Anderson by the time she arrived at the airport. They said it wasn't safe to apparate long distances with such a young baby, and she didn't want to risk Cherelle's life. Her late husband would have wanted her to be a good mother, so that's what she planned to do. And in order to do that, she needed to go home, and she needed to speak to her father, and her cousin. Ryden worked with potions and stuff, she could help her raise a baby.

YOUNG CHILDHOOD
Cherie grew up isolated. Her mother had decided to settle down in Amiens, a small town not too far from Paris, and set up a recording studio (Haley Bell Records). The only contact she had with the outside world was school and the rare times her pépère would take her out to Paris or London. She disliked the other children, for they made fun of her mother. She disliked ballet class, because the other girls always tripped her up. By the time Cherie was six years old, she was entirely independent. She knew where the snacks were to take to school, when her mother remembered to buy them, and the juice boxes. She had a key to the house around her neck from the moment she was old enough to walk. And she knew the village off by heart, knew the ins and outs of the road and all the local shop owners.

When Maman forgot to buy food, Cherie would take from other children. The school noticed, and she was asked to stop. She didn't stop, but she got better at making them not notice it was gone. Her first signs of magic happened along that vein, when an apple disappeared out of a girl's hand, and reappeared in Cherie's. She was kicked out of the local school in the weird panic than ensued, and her next school was far enough that she needed to take the bus.

The bus, and traveling around the French countryside, were staples of Cherie's childhood. She'd occasionally skip school and go explore, and study maps and read books and learned all she could about the area she lived in, simply by physically visiting all the places. All the while with a juice box in hand, and a sweet smile for the strange adults. She learned to run fast from the ones who spoke to her, and to bite the ones that tried to touch her, and to scream if that didn't work. She had never been scared, all her tactics worked.

Until she turned ten. She saw that mean aunt of hers, Ryden, talk to her mother about something. She rarely saw other family members, so she knew something must have happened. Then her grandfather arrived, and no one said anything for weeks. She noticed mother speaking less and less, even less than she usually does, and grandfather's hip failing him. But she had her books and the Jules Verne grave, who was her best friend. She spoke to the grave almost daily, as her bus stopped right by the cemetery. She kept herself sufficiently distracted until the talk finally happened. And then it all happened very fast.

She was going to go to Hogwarts, not Beauxbatons. They didn't want her. Not Beauxbatons, and not her mother and her grandfather. They thought she needed to move away to a place that would teach her how to be a child, which was preposterous because she is a child, she doesn't need tutelage in the subject. But her resistance was futile, she was only a child, and soon after she was whisked away from her beloved France, from Jules Verne and his grave, from the rivers and the hot fresh baguettes and the only place she'd ever called home, to a cold, big house called Stemp. Stemp House.

PRE-HOGWARTS
Living in Stemp House changed Cherie. She tried to stay the same, for a while, but it was hard. The Stemps themselves wanted her more than her mother ever did. Perhaps she'd change her name to Cherie Stemp one day, since Bonaccord means nothing. She became somewhat acquainted with Jude Stemp, a real Stemp child, and some others who lived in the home with her. In the summer she met more children and she hated them all instantly, but by the time September 1st rolled around Cherie wondered if she was more relieved that there would be peace and quiet again, or sad to see them all go.

She disliked being cooped up only within the Stemp House Residence, but discovered a long lost love for music. Her days were filled with sluggish attempts at magic lessons, and afternoons of terrible music. Now that Hogwarts is right around the corner, Cherie cannot help but feel hopeful. Moving to Stemp House had been good and bad, but more good than bad. Perhaps 'ogwarts, this school for British witches and wizards, would mean more good than bad as well.

HOGWARTS (AND ILVERMORNY)
Hogwarts was both everything Cherie thought it would be, and beyond anything she could have imagined. Cherie struggled connecting to other students her age, and her first few years at school were spent mostly alone. She didn't register her loneliness until she began to have more interactions with those around her, and then she began to seek people out. Her first proper friend, the one she felt a real attachment to, was Louise Bones. Amidst the chaos of daily life at Hogwarts, Louise was someone she could count on.

During the summer between Cherie's third and fourth years, she was accompanied by Stemp House part time employee Riley Stewart to America, in order to meet with her biological father. She had managed to extract the information from her mother during one of her infrequent visits back home. Things went severely wrong very quickly. Harvey, delighted to be given an opportunity to have a relationship with his (strange) daughter, persuaded her to stay for a little more time. Easily influenced, and short for money, Harvey was influenced by his surroundings to send his magical daughter off to boarding school and collect welfare. And so Cherie spent her fourth year at Ilvermorny, sorted into Thunderbird, and more miserable than she had been in years.

Reaching out to Lorelai Stemp was the first and hardest step. Half a year of legal battles followed, and by the summer Cherie was brought back to Stemp House, legally and permanently, and her relationship with her biological father severed forever. She feels indebted to Lorelai, and struggled to understand why someone would fight so hard and for so long just so that Cherie could be happier.

Back at Hogwarts for her sixth year, Cherie met Yong Haneul. She and Louise had kissed a little before she'd left, but with Haneul Cherie experienced what having a crush felt like for the very first time. She also found herself struggling to focus on her coursework for the first time, having not been someone who was easily distracted before she'd caught 'feelings'. Her OWLs weren't greatly affected at the end of the day - because the sixteen year old recognised that studying with Haneul was very counterproductive to the task at hand - but there was not much progression with her relationship with Haneul as a result. Cherie assumed it was because the other girl was a seventh year, and wouldn't be interested in someone who is two years her junior.
