Derek had slipped into the room as quietly as he possibly could and prayed no one - especially any of those women who called people 'love' and 'honey' and 'doll', for Merlin's sake - would see and/or engage with him.

He knew deep down that that was highly unlikely because not only was he one of the Department's supervisors, but his colleagues just really liked... chatting. Mainly nonsense too.

Urgh.

The PART Supervisor did grab some coffee and bagels because they smelled too good to be ignored. And actually, after literal decades working at the Ministry ~~minus a few years of self-employment~~ in the very same Department - Merlin, very same lab (HIS lab, by the way, just so people knew) - Derek finally felt at ease enough to go (quietly) go past his colleagues to grab some food. Eyes always down, of course.

He avoided moving around the room too much, so he took a seat at one of the ends of a table, by a corner, and listened to what his new boss had to say.

Miss Maddox? Not quite. As normal, Derek wasn't planning on taking any holiday at any time anyway, so that part was also fine by him. Quidditch Cup? He'd rather be in his lab, but if he had other work to do... so be it. The quicker he got over with it, the better so he could go back to his lab. Paperwork... and he'd be getting lots of it from those who working in ~~his~~ the lab. Fine by him as well, as long as people don't spoke to him ~~at all~~ much. Drink coffee? Derek was unintentionally on it already. Fine.

What the actual-? What? What for, for Merlin's sake??

The man shook his head and sipped his coffee, choosing not to make any ~~audible~~ comments. He was most definitely never going to use that useless box. Was this what was like having a woman as the overall boss? For Merlin's sake.

Derek couldn't say he was exactly looking forward to any more of these... ideas.
