Job Description: A Department of Mysteries Chronicler is tasked with the storage and maintenance of the archives for the department. They responsible for assembling, cataloguing, preserving and managing valuable collections of historical information, items, and artifacts of varying magical natures. These Unspeakables will receive and handle all packages, items, and documents that enter the department first and often times under the supervision of the Department Head. Moreover, they must ensure records are available to all Unspeakables who need to examine the materials for reference. While part of the administrative team for the Department of Mysteries, Chroniclers work stations are located in Chamber of Codes. Because Chroniclers provide a narrative behind the artifacts, they must to have strong research proficiency and effective written and oral communication skills. Chroniclers must be adept in spellwork. An O grade in NEWT level Charms and History of Magic, and an E grade in NEWT level Defense Against the Dark Arts. They must also have at least 4 other NEWT level subjects. Ancient Runes is recommended.

History: Jianyu was born to a Chinese immigrant muggle Father and Magical Mother in Leeds, England. His mother was an accomplished Curse Breaker while his Father was an Olympic Judo Athlete of little fame. Has has a younger brother only a few years younger than himself.

Spoiled and praised as the elder and more gifted child Jianyu grew a massive ego and superiority complex. Nobody was as good as he was in the eyes of his parents, and their peers. He showed Magical talent at a young age and a talent for Judo and other Martial Arts that his father would train him in. While his younger brother could not do the same when he came to that age as well. In fact his Younger Brother would not show any talent to the arcane at all.

Jianyu attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Gryffindor. It was here that reality crashed down on him. There were other students his age who showed more talent than him, and he grew jealous of them. He kept his Grades up as best he could but Jianyu became more of a attention seeking impractical joker to draw attention to himself while also alienating many would be friends with his cold attitude and superiority complex.

Jianyu managed to pass all the OWLs he deemed necessary for the field he wanted to follow. Same as his Mother’s Curse Breaking profession, but there were multiple letters sent home to his parents about his behavior and concern for his attitude while attending Hogwarts. It was out of control and was starting to become a distraction toward the other students.
Upset with his antics at school and that Jianyu’s father’s martial arts training did not discipline him enough they threatened Jianyu with attending a Military academy and removing him for Hogwarts unles she shaped up.

Devastated with his parents sudden betrayal toward him, having only known their praise. He calmed down with his rebellious nature during his final two years at Hogwarts but kept their threat close to his heart. Unforgiving toward them when he passed his NEWTS and graduated from Hogwarts instead of applying for Universities, Jianyu rebelliously joined the British Military as a sleight on his parents who were hoping he had reformed his ways and would then follow in his mother’s footsteps.

This act of rebellion would backfire on Jianyu immensely

During his time in the British Military Jianyu was whipped into shape gaining the discipline that his father could not teach him with Martial Arts. He rose through the ranks making it to Sergeant Major. Having served 8 years Jianyu left the Military. Having mended his relationship with his Family in that time, he then attended Hong Kong WU much to his mother’s delight and received his bachelor’s degree in Runes Study. He would go by his Military Rank while at School Sergeant-Major Zhu, many of his fellow students and the faculty would shorten it to Major something Jianyu took in stride.

After Graduating he would work under his mother doing Freelance Curse Breaking and Archeology work, and he would continue training under his Father alongside his squib brother and Muggle Uncle to complete his martial arts training.

He would continue working with his Mother for plenty more years. Although bad luck would strike at him and his mother during one of their Digs, Jianyu uncovered an old urn that he believed he effectively removed the curse from, but once his mother inspected it that proved to not be the case. On her first touch of the item her body lay petrified and unmoving. Jianyu’s mistake cost him his mother’s life.

This strained his relationship once again with his family. His Father and Brother would not forgive him for his reckless mistake and disowned him. While his Muggle Uncle stuck by his side during these hard times. Jianyu would never make this mistake again. The Urn that his mother lost her life too was taken from them by the Ministry. Jianyu glad to have it gone, but wanting to know more about it Could only speculate.

The Next many years would pass, Jianyu alongside his Uncle would open an Antic Shop in Wizarding London which sold old objects found or purchased by Jianyu or his Uncle. He would also open a Dojo in the back of the shop where he and his Uncle would take on many students. Gaining acclaim for his teaching as a Martial Arts expertise, Jianyu would train many WADA students who would go on to take many action roles for Film and TV., as well as MLE employees who seeked to widen their skills in different kinds of combat.

Recently his Squib Brother would send him a letter detailing him of his Father’s passing. Bringing back memories of his Mother, Jianyu attended his Father’s Funeral getting back in touch with his Brother where they would forgive one another. He would meet his Niece who was born with Magical Talent and his Brother asked him to help her train in Martial Arts.

He accepted. Knowing that he would have to no longer do Archeological or Curse Breaking work, to focus on helping raise
His niece, Jianyu kept up his Antique Shop and Dojo to make ends meet, but needed some extra money, applying to the
Ministry to solve that problem.
