Before he had a chance to respond or question her further though, Headmaster Trent had slipped into the room. Obviously, he'd been waaaaaay too distracted with other things - YOU KNOW LIKE THE WHOLE CLONE THING - to notice that Derf had been the one to go fetch him.

Honestly?????? He wasn't sure if this made the whole thing better or worse.

He was swaying towards worse. He didn't like attention. He was more than happy blending in and going unnoticed, quite the opposite of what was going on now with old Dopple yabbering away up there and asking what a Carden was.

A Carden? NOT HIM. Never heard of one.

THIS Max Carden ducked his head and shrunk as looooooow in his chair as physically possible, probably looking like the most guilty Max Carden out of ALL the Max Cardens in the vicinity.
