In the heat of the moment Derf found himself frustrated by Chloe asking so many questions and, for a brief moment, his face showed it. Maxton was honestly thinking more clearly - in his frantic opinion - in working quickly but efficiently. None of those creatures were safe under THAT man's gaze, none of them.
But then another thought crossed his mind in the moments between processing and opening his mouth to somewhat tell Chloe off for not understanding the urgency of the situation. Only it WAS all her questions that forced him to step back and think a little more out of the box - out of the box in thinking like how one Valerie Gray had performed during the IMPS. "A Daydream Charm. A powerful one," he said suddenly, looking around at his gathered classmates and trying to recall how proficient any of them were in advance charmswork. "We cast it over the barns and stables maybe...make him think they've all gone...then...then we hit him with one while he is distracted from the surprise...then...then we give him a Veritaserum...get him to confess everything and hand him over to the Ministry so justice can be served."
Okay...now he was spiraling off into extremes just a tad. Chloe would have to reel him back in again, as she was quite good at doing.
