The Divination Professor tapped the knob of the door with his wand and waited for the click to nudge it open. They could being the detention. The sooner they began was the sooner it would end. Brilliant how that worked but even then, it wouldn’t be until after he felt he’d sufficiently wasted her time to make up for his.
Inside the room was covered in....well flobberworms. Flobberworms and their mucus. The worms, many of them already reaching ten inches, wiggles around the room, pulling their mucus along and leaving new trails. It was an absolute lesson truth. A magical line was all that prevented them from getting to the part of the room the man stood and that was where he would stay. Indication of that came with him getting his usual chair and flopping into it. “Hand over your wand then begin collecting the mucus from the worms. Put them in the vials over there—you’ll need quite a few to get this all done. Any questions?” For a moment, Natalie wondered if Fletcher had done his digging and found out that Natalie hated creatures. Furry ones, slimy ones, even ones that didn't even move all that much. She wasn't a fan. There were a select few that she tolerated for personal reasons. Then of course there were mooncalves, that had become somewhat of an obsession over the last year. But really, overall... creatures were gross.
And flobberworms were the worst.
She wanted to run away and even risk expulsion, but she knew that was ridiculous, so she just nodded bravely and handed over her wand. She was gonna get this done and move on. And if these old dudes were in charge of Hogwarts next year too, she was NOT coming back.
Silently, Natalie went to the vials and picked one up to start. Then she slowly approached a long trail of slime that came behind a snail several inches away. Ugh. Gross. Like, at least it wasn't poop? But gross.
Actually, the idea of harvesting poop with her bare hands made this task seem easier. Natalie placed the edge of the vial on the ground and used her finger to scoop the slime into the glass. Merlin, this was going to take forever. "Actually, I do have a question," she chimed after a moment. "You're on the Board of Governor's, right?" |
